“Wonderful family escape”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2012

We got married here seven years ago, so we already knew we loved it. This summer, there was a Groupon offer, and the amazing Jason Schlosser hooked us right up. My son has wanted to see where we got married for years, so this was the perfect opportunity. We couldn't have had a better time. There is a small pool, a nearby beach, all the attractions of Boothbay Harbor, and the games room at the Inn (which my son thought was the best part). We had dinner at the Inn one night and my salad was so good, I ordered seconds. The staff was friendly and kind and made us feel right at home. My kids (7 and 2) had a wonderful time, and I didn't hear a single complaint about there are no TVs (which I thought was the best part).

Just returned from a stay at The Newegan Inn. First time using Groupon. The staff did an excellent job making sure we were comfortable, very accommodating people. The food is first class with good choices. Beautiful views. Will return again some day.

Room Tip: Stayed in the blueberry room. Very comfortable.

Spent 4 nights here in early September traveling with my 70-year-old mother. It was just as we expected, relaxing and low-key with stunning views, good food, and comfortable surroundings. I've stayed in 5-star resorts, but I'm still dreaming about this little inn. If you're looking for old-fashioned comfort and relaxation, there's no better place. We were in a room with 2 beds that looked out over the grounds to the harbor. Simple furniture and spotlessly clean. It was above the pub and we were worried about the noise at first, but it wasn't a problem. (The pub always closed promptly at 10 and was never rowdy.) There's plenty to do rain or shine right on the property with a pool, game/puzzle closet, several public gathering spots to enjoy alone with a book or with fellow guests, 2 dining options with a superb menu, hiking trails (ask for the map), evening entertainment by the outdoor fire pit or indoor fireplace. Don't miss the butterflies--hundreds of them gather here! Also: Coastal Botanical Gardens, East Boothbay drive/views, lobster rolls at the Southport village store. No television or radio in the room, but excellent internet access. If you're trying to "unplug and relax," it's easy to do here. Can't wait to return.

Room Tip: Upstairs in the main inn, the rooms in the back overlooking the grounds all have great views.

For a Columbus Day getaway, my wife and I booked a two-night stay using a Web-discount service.
The Inn more than met my expectations. A great locale, water all around, picture-perfect setting inside and out, great service, comfortable accommodations, big roaring blaze in the lobby fireplace.
Our deal included two nights lodging, a $40 dinner voucher, breakfast and great vibe.
The inn has a row boat, bicycles, games galore, great hot coffee during the day and evening, wifi in the lobby. The last night we were there a guest came to the front desk and asked about a telescope to look at Jupiter.
A second later he came struggling out of the back with a giant telescope. Talk about service.
The meal we had was great, breakfasts were great too.
The service was what sets this apart from most inns. Gracious, helpful, geniune.
We will be back.
The wall were, I have to admit, were a bit thin, but not enough to dampen our spirits.
The fact they didn't have televisions in the rooms was a blessing. We don't watch commercial television at home.
We couldn't get wifi in our room, but that was OK.
All in all, one of the best inn experiences we've had in New England.
High recommended....

Room Tip: Both sides have water views...I peeked into a suite and snapped a few pictures below.

We stayed at both the inn and one of the small cottages. Both were perfect. The cottage worked for us because we came with our three small children and they had more room to run around. Breakfast was terrific and so were the evening campfires with smores. Jason, the general manager goes out of his way to make you feel welcomed and comfortable. We will be back for sure.

We just stayed at this hotel and were extremely unimpressed. We unfortunately were "victims" of a Groupon and that seemed the case for quite a few other people there as well. When we first checked in we were in room 106. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. This room had one small window and was microscopic. The walls were so thin that you could easily hear people checking in downstairs. The bathroom was so small that you could barely step into the tub without hitting the toilet. I think cruise ship bathrooms are larger. The water pressure was horrendous. At various points we would be reduced to a trickle of water. I immediately complained and wanted a different room. I was told there was none available, although the Vacancy sign was still up outside. My husband and I went back to our room and tried to make the best of it. About an hour later, we were called and informed that there were actually two rooms available that we could be moved to. Imagine that?! Fortunately this room was better (it couldn't have got worse), though smelled very musty. This hotel may have been nice 20 years ago but is in MAJOR need of upgrades. I don't mind a quaint nice New England inn but not something that feels like a prison.

The only thing this place had going for it was the dinner food (hence my upgrade to Poor from Terrible) and the view of the Bay. The dinner we had in the main dining room was absolutely excellent. I got a filet and my husband got the lobster for one. We were both very happy with our meals. Breakfast was a standard buffet and was mediocre at best.

I don't mean to sound so harsh but we spent $200 for two nights and we couldn't stand the place any longer and had to leave after one night. A couple other items to note: standard age of the guests is over 65; Boothbay Harbor doesn't offer nearly as much activities as originally thought; the hotel shuts down at 10; they offer no lunch options during the week; the game room is RUNDOWN and not even close to as nice as pictured online.

Room Tip: Avoid room 106. It is EXTREMELY small.

Rooms are renovated from an old hotel that has been on this site from many years and the owners have done a marvelous update. The corridors are narrow and rooms on the small side BUT everything else, including the wonderful employees and the other activities from the ocean views to the bowling alley and the sunsets make it the place to stay. This is not a country club atmosphere BUT a vacation to remember if you like the rocky coast of Maine and what it has to offer. Take a ride on the vintage foot brake bikes offered; set up your own candlepin bowling pins from an alley off of a boat: take one of the available row boats out on the harbor. All part of your stay. So what if there is no TV in your room. Go to the bar and watch it there if your hooked! Why not play a board game which are also available and really be on a vacation! Of course much in the Boothbay Harbor area to see and do as boat and fishing trips, shopping etc. A short and scenic ride back from the Inn. Try it you'll like it!

Room Tip: I liked the basic rooms on the second floor facing the front.
