We stayed here for our 10th anniversary, and again when in town for a job interview. I would stay only at The Victorian by the Sea. The owners provide a true coastal Maine experience, with romantic rooms, a great breakfast, and the freedom to take in the grounds, scenery (and there is plenty of it) and use of the Inn's common areas. This is the place to come for getting away from it all. The location is perfect between Camden and other small coastal towns within reach of 2 hours either North and South, including Bar Harbor. The owners are quality people who enjoy sharing their B & B ownership experience just as if they've known you for a hundred years. No place I have ever stayed was as welcoming or comfortable as The Victorian by the Sea. With all due respect to other fine places to stay in the Camden area, I would never recommend any other B & B because this is the perfect experience.

This was our third stay at the Victorian. We initially spent our honeymoon there on a recommendation of a good friend a couple of years ago. Since then, the Victorian has become our special place to spend a night or two.
It is an elegant retreat from the hussle of today to the quiet simpler time of Maine "rusticators". There is no TV in the main house; it doesn't seem to fit the authentic victorian atmosphere. It is the perfect place to really get away with your special someone. You can relax with a good book on the expansive veranda, sitting room, or down the woods path to the small sitting area on the ocean or run into Camden for unique small shops and dining. There are fire places in many rooms that actually can heat the rooms. The views of Penobscot Bay from many of the rooms are panoramic coast of Maine.
The innnkeepers, Greg and Ginny, are very accomodating and friendly. Returning is like visiting friends. Ginny's breakfasts are imaginitive and pleasantly surprising. She is also very responsive to special dietary needs.
We will be returning for years to come.

We have stayed at the Victorian By The Sea at least 5 different
years. We have friends from out of state that we meet there and
then shop, dine, sail and tour the area. Every visit has been a delight. Greg & Ginny always welcome us as old friends and make us feel right at home.

The breakfasts are always scrumptuous ... and we enjoy our morning coffee on the porch listening to the lobster boats or the buoy bells and chatting with other guests.

The rooms and the entire facility are immaculate and well kept. We enjoy walking down to the ocean ... playing games in the living room or just sitting and relaxing listening to the music.
We have never even considered staying anywhere else after we found the Victorian By The Sea. We highly recommend it and
know you will enjoy it too!

My wife Juie and I have stayed at the Victorian by the Sea for 8 years in a row. We have found Greg and Ginny to be excellent hosts and the accomidations are to notch. We stay at the property because we are close to downtown Camden but away from the traffic and hustle and bustle during the summer. The views are great, the rooms are great and the breakfasts are always incredible. Highly recommended. We wouldn't keep coming back year after year if we didn't love the place!

My wife and I found this on the internet. When we got there we learned there was no TV. We had booked 3 nights. I am a sports fan so that was not good. We asked the owner to let us out of the contract with some penalty. He said NO. We must pay for all 3 nights. The room we stayed in had a terrible fan that made noises no one could sleep through. My wife had negotiated a 10% discount because of the 3 night stay. We asked for another room that was billed for the same rate. He moved us but cancelled the discount claiming that the 3 night discount only applied if we stayed in the same room. He hovered over us during breakfest to the point that my wife got scared. They say you can walk to the shore. But you better have a 30 foot ladder if you do. For the money, they don't spend it on toilet paper. They seem to have the cheapest that they can buy. There are many more good places in Camden to stay. I would reccommend High Tide. But never, never, never stay at Victorian by the sea.

Wow. We definitely feel the need to respond to this review. We are all for creative or constructive criticism, but this review is unfair and unsubstantiated. The couple in question were belatedly celebrating their 16th anniversary. They arrived on a Friday and were here for a day and a half when the wife informed us that her husband required a television in order to watch Cokie Roberts on Sunday morning. I told her we had one room that had a cable hookup and that she could see it after I checked the availability. My husband ended up showing her the room. It is a more expensive room, but we did extend the 10% discount to them, and she seemed satisfied with the arrangement. Nowhere on our web site does it state that we have television on the premises. It is our opinion that if a television is that important to someone, the question should come up during the reservation process. With regard to the claim that we say you can walk to the shore, on our web site and during the check-in process, we state that we have a private path to a cliff above the ocean. After reading the review, we went into both rooms that were occupied by this couple and turned on the ceiling fans. As we expected, they were silent. We have no idea where the “hovering” comment comes from. We were almost full to capacity and would have been talking with all guests. We get a kick out of the cheap toilet paper remark and wonder how Kimberly-Clark (the makers of Scott brand tissue) would feel about it. When this couple left our property, she cheerfully shouted goodbye to us and took a couple of brochures. We realize that our place may not be perfect for everyone, and feel that Trip Advisor is a wonderful resource for travelers – including ourselves. Unfortunately, this review does not live up to the motto: “get the truth. then go.”
