“Keep driving”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2013

If you're going to call yourself the "Bagel Caboose," you are going to have to make sure your bagels are good and fresh. They were neither during our recent visit.

We each ordered a breakfast sandwich on a toasted bagel and decided to share a muffin while waiting for them to be prepared. Our first clue was that all the "fresh baked goods" were displayed in saran wrap. Nevertheless, we asked that a muffin be heated, preferably grilled. The guy behind the counter said he couldn't grill a muffin but could microwave it. Second clue: how was he going to prepare breakfast sandwiches if he couldn't use the grill? Answer: Microwave them.

The bagels were toasted lightly but the tops were steamy, the egg was either powdered or precooked somewhere other than on the premises. Ditto the bacon in my sandwich and the sausage in my husband's. The entire thing was microwaved and then served. If we had been blindfolded, we couldn't have guessed what we were biting into, the sandwiches were so tasteless. We took a couple of bites and pushed the whole thing away - muffin too since it wasn't fresh and was soggy.

This little place could be very charming if they offered a decent product but they don't seem to even try. We like to support local efforts but this place isn't worth it.

“BAGEL BREAKFAST IN A GENUINE CABOOSE”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2013

The Bagel Caboose is in a genuine caboose converted into a diner-style bagel shop. It's painted a classic red so it has a lot curb appeal from the street. The inside is decorated with some railroading memorabilia, including a model train that runs around track overhead near the kitchen.

There are usually about a dozen flavors of bagels with a variety of toppings beyond plain cream cheese or lox. One bagel is made into a breakfast sandwich. Muffins are also offered.

Beverages include teas, several varieties of coffee, milk, juices, and soda.

They also have bagels to pack up and take home.

On my most recent visit, I had a toasted marble bagel without anything on it. I like the slight crunch created by the toasting.

I also like the multigrain bagel. One of these days I'll try the seaberry bagel.

Dine in; dine outside; or, take it to go.

It' a great place to stop off en route to the Kittery Outlets or on a cruise up Route 1.

The Bagel Caboose is also family-friendly, including those families traveling with youngsters.

“Funky easy stop for a quick breakfast”

We stopped by here randomly while in Kittery last week. The bagels were fantastic, and the guy running the place was very pleasant and wanted us to be happy. We were.

“Poor quality”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 29, 2013

This place used have fresh bagels and great cream cheese choices but this last year it has gone downhill. The bagels/croissants are sometimes leftovers from the day before and what little cream cheese you get has very few additions in it. For example you only get a piece of olive every third bite and it is small. Too bad we could use the old Bagel Caboose back.

“Old-style coffe and bagel meeting place”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2012

Great bagel selections -- coffee just okay for an everyday coffee -- I'd like a more strong brew. the bagel fixings are tasty and innovative.
