We had a nice stay at the Coachman. The room was large and clean. We paid about $135 a night (which may seem high, but it is August and everyone is full). We really liked having the access from the outside (drive up to your room) and also having a central hall down the middle of the hotel (allowing you to get ice or coffee without going outside). The motel is right near the Kittery outlets, but it is near impossible to walk there due to traffic (if you ever played Frogger, this would be it). The pool is located in the shade (except for early morning). Everyone that we saw at the pool remarked how cold it was. It was very cool. It might feel more refreshing if it wasn't in the shade so much. The sunny picture in the brochure must have been taken at 9 am. Aside from this, there is really nothing for kids to do here. It would be nice to have a play area where kids could do something. The internet that they refer to is only in the office and lobby (not in your room). Also, the ad we saw really built up the free breakfast as deluxe or an adjective to that effect. It is basically OJ, corn flakes, a cheerio type cereal, frozen danish, english muffin, bagel, bananas, oranges, and coffee/tea. This was nice, but really should not be built up as anything more than a continental breakfast. There was no butter (only margarine), no peanut butter (only jelly and cream cheese). The ad we saw indicates that it would be something more than a regular continental breakfast. We found it equal to or less than most. The coffee/tea/cocoa is available all of the time which is nice.
Overall, we had a good experience and wouldn't hesitate to stay there again if we had to. Having three children, we definitely would look for a place with more to do (even a simple playground) and a warmer pool (even if it cost us more). If you are passing through and only spending a night, this is a nice clean place. If you are older and do not have children, I'm sure you would enjoy this place for several days. We are glad we went to Kittery and want to empasize that it is a clean, respectable place to stay.
