“trail dinner”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2012

After a long, rocky walk mostly uphilll over many rocks and roots, we arrived at the hut for a reserved dinner. Dinner cost $15 plus tip and plus $4. for a beer. It was a worthwhile experience with dinner being more than acceptable, prepared by a home-trained cook and the fish was excellent. A sudden storm forced us to run down the mountain to the car, about 3/4 mile away. An experience not to forget! Recommended for those in fairly good condition.

“Incredible place, incredible experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2012

We just got back from a 5 day trip to the Maine Huts and Trails. We had skied to and stayed at the Flagstaff Lake hut last winter and had loved it, but going in summer was even more of special experience in many ways. We canoed in and stayed 1 night at Flagstaff Lake (enjoying the incredible scenery, sunset, and swimming in the warm lake.) We then canoed up the Dead River, going from Hut-to-Hut, staying 2 nights at Grand Falls hut enjoying the incredible falls, including swimming under them, and in the river hiking to an another smaller, hidden falls, and just siting enjoying the wonderful views. We ended our trip canoeing back to Flagstaff Lake for a last night there. In each hut the food was healthy, very plentiful and incredibly delicous. The staff were absolutely top notch, very friendly and incredibly informative on the area and things to do.

What an incredible and rare resource/experience that MH&T has created. We were able to spend 5 days totally away from cell phones, emails, roads, cars, televisions, in some of the most stunning, remote, unspoiled places in the country. Aside from evenings at the Huts, we hardly saw any other people -amost like we had the wilderness to ourselves - but we saw incredible wildlife - many loons (with chicks), bald eagles, beavers, otters etc.

The word "hut" is misleading. These are gorgeous, architect designed, inviting, comfortable, off the grid, sustainably built back country lodges with wonderfull hot showers. Sleeping rooms are basic, but we hardly spent time there anyway. We paid a little extra for a private 3-person room for us and our child, and would recommend this, especially if you are going with kids. The matresses at Flagstaff Lake are too thin for my old body, but the ones at Grand Falls are perfect, and i understand they are upgrading the matresses at Flagstaff too very soon!

One of the best vacations we have ever had as a family. Our 8 year old totally loved it as much as we did. It was a great adventure and incredibly relaxing. All the benefits of wilderness camping, but with much more comfort and ease!! We will go back soon, and often. I hope MH&T suceeds in building a whole network of these lodges!

“Fun Adventure!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2012

I went to Maine Huts & Trails on my own for some hiking and loved it! Stayed at Poplar one night and Flagstaff for two nights, and loved both. Poplar is a bit more quiet, but had some lovely waterfalls you could swim in. Flagstaff is on the lake and I took advantage of the kayaks and canoes for a few quick paddles around. Beautiful areas, great accommodations and very friendly staff.

“Wonderful experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2012

I biked up to the Poplar Stream Hut where I had a Curry chicken wrap and a three bean salad. Wonderful atmosphere way back in the woods.
