“Still looking for a challenge”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2014

Ski hills have to cater to all levels, and Sugarloaf seems to be good at that up to the advanced intermediate level - lots of cruisers. For experts, I found the steeps were overly groomed, wide and pretty straightforward skiing (summit). Moguls were few (Bubblecuffer from the summit down was the exception) and glades needed much more pruning to be usable.
Bracket basin was partially closed and the 3+3 rule scared off my buddies. Place needs more trails - narrow to keep the snow away from the wind, with varying pitches and turns and fun glades.
The grooming was great, liftees were fun and friendly and base facilities are terrific and accessible. And my friends loved the clinics - a great way to learn about the mountain.

“Excellent family ski resort for all abilities”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2014

First time we have skiied in the USA and we will definitely come back to Sugarloaf! As a family with kids aged 8 &10 and all different ski abilities, there are plenty of trails for all. Mountain Adventure ski club was fantastic for the kids, they made friends and had great instruction, booked in for the full day, we checked in with them each lunchtime but they really didn't want to see us, they were having too much fun!We stayed in Birchwood#829. Very handy for lift and health and fitness centre. Condo had all the amemities we needed, dishwasher, washer/dryer etc. and was warm enough. From chatting to others not all condos ( a number are privately owned) have the same amenities so if you have particular needs might be worth asking when booking. All staff extremely helpful and friendly, well managed lift queues. Restaurants - plenty of choice, good apres ski.

“Worth the drive...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2014 via mobile

We've got a 6 + hour drive to ski here but it always SO worth it!
They always do a great job grooming, making snow and the diversity of the terrain is fantastic. The base area has a good variety of shops and restaurants - not just the typical "on-mountain" types.
Riding the lifts and in shops or restaurants the regulars and employees are always willing to share bits of info about Sugarloafs secrets.

“Pretty good...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2014

We went over MLK weekend, 2014, and it was pretty good, having never gone to Maine at all, we went in expecting nothing and were pleasantly surprised. The first day we ended up skiing a half day in the afternoon only because we got there so late the night before (2am); its a long drive from NJ. My wife and I have skied/snowboarded all over the east coast, and some places out west as well. The one thing that this seems to have over the other places in the Northeast is: ambiance. It feels like you're out west. The shops and restaurants are nice and service was good. I had a GREAT time at the Widowmaker Lounge for Apres Ski. The slopes, fell victim to the weather of the Northeast, one day it was warm and everywhere was slushy, and then the next there was a lot of ice. Although they do try their hardest with the snow guns and groomers, first tracks was sick on Sunday, and it wasn't overly crowded. We stayed at the Sugarloaf Inn, and that was the low point of the trip, but I made a separate review of it on this site as well. As the title suggests, we were quite happy, and we plan on going back, soon, albeit at different lodging.
