My husband and I booked a room in the Portside Lodge at the Nonantum Resort for early September. Our room was spacious and comfortable, and offered a lovely view of the grounds and Kennebunk River. (We were on the first floor, but if I am lucky enough to go back, I would book a room on the second floor for an even better view) One day during our stay was quite stormy, and we truly enjoyed the comfort of our room while watching and listening to the storm. We stayed at the resort for an entire week, and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The daily buffet breakfasts were filling and relaxed, and on most days we were seated by the window to enjoy the beautiful view. One evening we ate dinner in the "pub" which serves the same menu as the actual restaurant, and enjoyed our meal...especially the blueberry ribs! On another evening we went to the restaurant, "95 Ocean" for a lovely three course dinner with wine pairings, which was delicious, and featured the most enormous servings of bread pudding I have ever seen!
During our stay we scheduled a 1.5 hour trip on the Rugosa, a classic New England lobster boat which is tied up at the Nonantum dock. The tour was a fun and informative experience during which we got to see the crew pull up lobster traps, we tried our hand at banding the claws, and learned a huge amount about being a lobster fisherman in Maine. The cost was $30 a person, which we felt was very reasonable. We enjoyed Captain Bob and Matt, and had the opportunity to speak with them several times more during the week.
We found the staff to be extremely friendly and helpful, and couldn't have asked for better service at the front desk or in the dining room.
I do have to agree with another reviewer who mentioned troubles with the wi fi connection. My husband made several trips to the front desk for help, and while they did offer suggestions, the reception in our room was definitely spotty. We did see several people in the common area of the Portside Lounge with their iPads, so wi fi was obviously better there, but we sure would rather be able to use the wi fi in the comfort of our room.
When I get the chance to visit Maine again, I will most definitely spend time at the Nonantum with its beautiful grounds, comfortable rooms, wonderful location, and excellent service.
While I didn't see the rooms in the main building, I believe the second floor of the Portside Lo...

We very much appreciate your lovely comments regarding your trip to The Nonantum! DInner in the Pub seems to be one of the new most popular activities at The Hotel! As you correctly stated, the entire menu is available in Heckman's Pub, and many visitors love the casual vibe! Rick the Bartender and Linda the Waitress are great sources of ideas for things to do and see during your stay in Kennebunkport~
Thursday night wine dinners are a wonderful hit and Mark the Bar Manager does such an amazing job of pairing wine with our wonderful food! I had dinner in the dining room the night you are referencing and that Pumpkin Bread Pudding was off the charts!
Trips on the Rugosa are always popular with guests of all ages and Captain Bob has some great stories of life in this beautiful area of the country that you just do not want to miss!
We hope you will be back to see again very soon!
Have a great Autumn!
