“A Pleasant Stay in Kennebunkport”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2013 via mobile

We spent one night at the Nonantum Resort. It was very pleasant: our room was small but adequate and clean. We wished we had a king size bed compared to the queen:two luggage racks would have been nice. The front desk staff were all very nice and helpful.

The location of the hotel was superb. Near the water but close to the center of town.

Thanks so much for taking the time to write in and share your thoughts about the Nonantum! Many fellow travelers look to Trip Advisor for suggestions about where they should stay and where they should eat so having someone who has been there, done that is a huge help!
Our guests love being able to arrive in town, park their cars and not move the car again until they leave! You can easily walk to town from here and lots of people never leave our property as they can eat, drink and be merry right here!
Thanks again for the wonderful write. We hope to see you again soon!

The folks at the Nonantum resort truly exceeded all my expectations when I stayed there with my 2 children and our nanny. The rooms were immaculate, the scenery gorgeous, the service by the staff first class and the food amazing!!!!! While it was a short stay, I was relaxed and time really seemed to slow down. The delightful activity crew was so great - my kids had a blast. The breakfast was delicious! I arrived from Texas after a long day of travel and could not have been more delighted by my experience from the moment I checked in - right up until the time I had to unfortunately check out. 5 star!!!! We will be back and soon, I hope!!!!! thank you Nonantum!

Hello Melissa:
Thank you so much for sharing your memories of your recent trip to Kennebunkport! We love to hear that you were so relaxed that time actually slowed down! This is hard to achieve in this crazy world we all live in!
Our Activities Program is one of the main reasons families come back and see us year after year! Happy kids + happy mom = great vacation!
Please come back and see us again, but next time stay longer! There is so much to see and do in Kennebunkport!
Happy Fall!

Hello Quebec Visitor!
Thank you very much for the lovely review! Romantic and comfortable are two of my favorite descriptors! What more could you ask for from a resort?
The Fourth Floor of the Inn is a special place! The views are really quite amazing! I have been known to sneak up there in the winter and snap a few photos. Always beautiful no matter the season!
Please come back and check out the views in another season. I am sure you will be impressed!
Thanks again!

And for good reason. We recently returned from our 4th stay at the Nonantum and are looking forward to the 5th. The Nonantum has something for everyone and makes a huge effort to keep the kids entertained which is good news for all vacationers! Loved our room in Portside and was very impressed with the updates throughout. The breakfast buffet is diverse and more than satisfying. Staff even managed to bring in good weather for our stay. The relaxation factor is off the chart. Reading a book by the river and being warmed by the Maine sun, but cooled by the always present gentle breeze and occasionally glancing at the boats is an experience in relaxation that I highly recommend.

See you next year!

We are so glad you can really relax knowing your little ones are having the time of their lives in Henry's Kids Club! That is the way vacations are supposed to be! Fun for all.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2013

We recently stayed at the Nonantum for two nights with our daughter, and, despite some disappointments, overall were content with our choice.

First, the positives: Beautiful grounds, with gorgeous, lush gardens and an extensive, soft lawn. The fairy garden is especially charming and was a huge hit with our seven-year-old. Relaxing and fairly quiet, despite the hotel being fully occupied and host to a wedding when we were there. It didn't feel crowded at all. Location is perfect: riverfront, and easy walking distance to the village. The hotel booked a wonderful sailing excursion for us that conveniently departed from the Nonantum dock. The kids' club activities provided perfect downtime for my daughter; Elsie is fantastic with kids and super talented --- we loved listening to her sing by the campfire. Our room in the Portside Lodge had a patio, a lovely view of the water, and a comfortable mattress. The hotel and the room were extremely clean. Parking is free and plentiful. We also liked the complimentary breakfast buffet each morning, which truly offered something for everyone and was a step above the usual included hotel breakfasts elsewhere.

We were, however, disappointed with the room itself. It was extremely generic, with cheap furnishings, builder-grade fixtures, and few amenities. There was not one trace of luxury anywhere, despite the room rate of $400/night. No robes; fairly thin towels and sheets; and very thin walls. We could hear everything in the rooms next to, and above, us. The bathroom had a cosmetic remodel recently, but the bathtub and shower fixtures were old and ugly. We weren't planning on staying in the room much anyway --- the whole point of Maine in the summer is to be outside --- but for similar money, we've had much more luxurious experiences in Hawaii, Italy, and even other New England hotels.

Other cons: The service at the hotel is generally polite and cheerful, but you often have to go out of your way to find someone to help you. A food order at the hotel pub/bar took over an hour to be ready. The pool bar closes early. The non-smoking policy is apparently not enforced; we saw smokers all over the grounds and on adjacent patios to ours. And, perhaps most jarringly, while Elsie at the kids' club is perfect for the job and a huge asset to the resort, one of her colleagues actually told a child who was standing in line for face painting, "Can you please move away from me? I get claustrophobic when my personal space is invaded." The child's feelings were hurt, obviously, and my young daughter, who observed this exchange, even commented, "I don't think she likes working with kids." Not exactly what one expects at a "family friendly resort."

All of that said, the Nonantum satisfied the most important of our expectations: that we'd have a lovely place to relax and enjoy Maine. When you are lounging on an adirondack chair and drinking a glass of wine as you watch the sun set over the river, not much else matters. So for the setting alone, I'd consider returning.

Room Tip: Choose a second floor room in the Portside Lodge if possible --- best views.

Greetings Austin Guests!
My appreciation for taking time to outline your experience at The Nonantum! It sounds like you and your daughter had a wonderful time! That hard working Activities Crew does their best to insure our little guests and their parents have a grand vacation!
Elsie, who is headed back for her Sophomore years at Smith in just a couple of days, is a fantastic addition to our Activities/Entertainment staff. She does an awesome job at The Campfires and could there be a nicer before bed ritual than a toasted marshmallow and a few songs while watching the moonlight on the water?
Please come back and see us again soon! The Adirondack chairs are awaiting your arrival!

We stayed at the Nonantum for 3 nights in late July 2013. Everything was perfect - we had a very nice large room with a huge balcony overlooking the water. We were in the portside lodge on the second floor in room #252. Our room was the very closest to the water and had the very best views. The grounds were beautiful and well maintained with daylilies, daisies, hydrangea, and hosta. It is a pleasant half mile walk into the village.

Room Tip: You have to select room 251, 252, or 253 in the Portside lodge. But, you will need to make your rese...

Hello Texas Friend!
Perfect! Wow! What a nice review! We very much appreciate it!
The gardens really are lovely all year but in mid summer they certainly hit their height of beauty! On these warm sunny Maine days with a cool breeze from the water I find it very challenging to stay in my office! I would much rather be wandering the grounds admiring the flowers and chatting with our many happy guests! I must admit to giving in to temptation a couple times a day and heading outside. I love chatting with our guests and interestingly enough, there are many from Texas like yourself! It is so fun to learn all about where they are from!
Please come and see us again very soon! The fall folliage and plantings are perhaps even more spectacular than the summer ones!
Warm Regards,

We just returned from a 5 night stay at the Nonantum Resort. The first thing my children and I noticed was the beautiful fairy garden next to the front porch. This sighting started things out perfectly for our little ones age 7 & 4.

Our room was clean and very charming with a view of the marina and a fireplace. The bathroom was very clean and nice-sized.

Activities - We really enjoyed the activities for our kids. They were able to do arts and crafts every morning after breakfast and pretty much any time of the day. All of the staff were very friendly, but we all want to give a huge shout-out to Elsie, who really went above and beyond entertaining our kids (she even plays the guitar and sings!!!). More activities are kayaking, ping-pong, hula-hooping, marshmallow roasting, movies at night and a Princess/Pirate party supervised by the staff that allowed my husband and I to have a quiet dinner together down the street at Mabel's Lobster Claw.

Location - The hotel is located close to town. It took us about 10 minutes to walk there each night.

Dining - Breakfast was included during our stay and it was simply delicious, so many great staples mixed with unique choices each morning. We also had dinner at 95 Ocean one night and it was a very nice meal.

The only cons - The hotel itself is very old, with all of the creaks that come along with it. The hallways are a little stark and the elevator must be run by one of the hotel staff. That being said, we opted to use the stairs for exercise purposes. We were worried that the people below and next to us could hear our every move, but we were barely in our room and we realize these things come with the charm of an older establishment.

Overall, we has a fantastic time!!

One more thing - if you are of age, try the Heckman's Hurricane drink served at the pool bar, Latitudes - absolutely delish!!!

Hello Mrs Christy!
I appreciate you taking time to share your recent experience at The Nonantum Resort! It sounds like you and your family had a grand time! Elsie certainly is a very talented girl! My office overlooks the Activity Area and I love watching her intereact with the kids and their families. She is a champion hula hooper and I think she does an awesome job singing at the campfires!
Pirate and Princess night is also a favorite of mine. Watching the children in search of treasure running across the lawn (wearing the appropriate headgear of course!) with looks of sheer joy on their faces leaves a smile on my face! Just so cute!
Thanks so much for writing! Hope to see you again soon!
