My husband and I stayed in the Oriental Room for 2 nights after a week hiking up in Acadia National Park. We wanted to relax and feel a little pampered, and we definitely got both. The room was beautiful and huge. The jacuzzi bathtub was great, and the bed was king size and so comfortable! It was extremely quiet once inside the room, so we felt like we were in our own little world.

Breakfast was done communally in the kitchen. I could do without the communal aspect, but the breakfast was delicious and we had several choices. I especially loved the lemon sesame muffins.

I had a stone massage, which was excellent. My husband relaxed in our room with some wine he bought at the front desk (they have a nice wine selection).

The staff was very friendly and eager to help with whatever we needed.

Our only complaint is that there was no TV in the room. My mistake for overlooking that on the website, but it was a bit of a disappointment, especially since the bed is so comfortable, you just want to kick back and watch some TV. But we did a lot of reading instead. I think a lot of guests ask about the inn getting TVs so maybe this will change. Also, the WiFi does not work everywhere and did not work on our laptop.

A good restaurant to try in town is The Hurricane, we had a really nice lunch there. We also went to the White Barn Inn, which is very expensive but amazing, on par with the best restaurants in Manhattan.

  • Liked — Large room, comfort, breakfast.
  • Disliked — No TVs, WiFi that didn't work in our room, a little overpriced.

Bautiful old sea mariner mansion in the heart of Kennebunkport. Walk anywhere from this spot. Terrific grounds and a well maintained mansion. The rooms are large and spacious, and our bathroom was immense, with both a grand tub and a shower with two pedestal sinks.
The breakfasts were superbly prepared and the staff were truly interested in making your stay both at the mansion and in the area one to be remembered.

We were humbled as a first time visitor to learn that another guest had been at the mansion 16 times! Thats a sign of a great B & B. You cannot be disappointed here!

Not having stayed at a bed and breakfast before, my husband and I booked our reservation on the advice of friends who stayed there earlier this year. We are so glad we did! The staff was friendly and helpful. The inn was so clean, quiet, and felt just like home....no, better! We stayed in the "Harvest" room, which was beyond our expectation! It was so quiet...
we didn't even know anyone else was in the Inn. The bed was extremely comfortable and the sitting areas were just perfect for reading a book and information about where to go in Kennebunkport. Great walking distance to restaurants, shops, and just to get in a good walk. The breakfast was delicious and we enjoyed meeting other guests at the breakfast table. We'll definitely return to this wonderful place!

What a wonderful, enjoyable, pleasant experience our stay at the Captain Lord Mansion was!!!!
The breakfasts were delicious.
The staff was most helpful and went out of their way to be even more helpful.
Our room was immaculate as was the entire Inn.
Even the rain did not dampen our attitude, not one bit!!
Little things.....make-up wipes in every room, dishes filled with little candies in all the rooms as well as in the public areas, umbrellas for the inclement weather, bicycles and helmets for those so inclined and coffee, tea and snacks available throughout the day.
Every room was stacked with refrigerated drinks at no extra charge.
What more can we say!!!!

We had a very nice stay at the Captain Lord Mansion. It was exactly what we had imagined it to be based upon the website pictures. We stayed in the Regulator room, which is on the third floor. We dont mind stairs, but if you do pick something on the second floor. The Regulator is a large, comfortable room with a great four poster bed. It has a nice modernish bathroom. The only odd thing is that you walk into the room through the closet. I imagine that the room was reconfigured whenever they turned the house into an Inn.
Unlike the previous reviewer, we found the front desk friendly and helpful. They made good dining recommendations and gave us good directions. The bellboy was unobtrusive and we forgot to tip him - my husband had to go look for him later.
The breakfasts were ample and delicious. We positioned ourselves so that we could sit in the diningroom, I dont think I would have liked it as much if I had to sit in the kitchen tables. The thing about B & B's is that you have to talk with other guests at the table. Everyone was very nice and very interesting but I personally find it an effort to meet new people before I've had my coffee. I think that I am not a B& B person at heart, but if I were to stay in one this would be my top choice.
We did miss our room at Captain Lord's quite a bit when we went to our luxury hotel in Portland next. It was dingy and boring by comparison.

  • Liked — Wonderful bed and wonderful breakfast
  • Disliked — walking up two flights of stairs to get to the room
