Description: In the heart of this mostly residential enclave, in a converted circa-1895 Shingle Style house, sits Ocean. Though the Inn has existed in one permutation or another since the 1950s, and it has long held a reputation for well-appointed lodgings and fine dining. The Innkeepers have filled the building with a striking art collection that could make small New England museums envious, while Chef Gignac uses the dining room—with its awe-inspiring views—as a canvas upon which to create epicurean masterpieces. Pierre Gignac graduated from the Institut d’Hôtellerie et de Tourisme du Québec. Pierre chose to open his first restaurant in Ogunquit, Maine “98 Provence," which pleased locals, tourists and critics for 18 years, until it closed in 2012.

“Great meal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

We had a wonderful dinner here at the Cape Arundel Inn. I did not feel the host was very good at seating. He gave us an end table close to the entrance when there were wonderful window seats or a seat near the Christmas tree which would have made our visit very romantic. We did have reservations but maybe the others were specifically reserved. He then tried to seat another couple next to us making us and the other couple extremely cramped. The other couple had to ask to be moved. On the other hand, our server was great. Wonderful personality and very attentive. The quail appetizer was great and my duck entree was fantastic. I would like to go back during the spring or summer to be able to see the view.

“Nice location, so so food!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2012

This restaurant sits on a lovely place with a beautiful view of the ocean. The host was very nice, offering us several nice table choices. We decided to wait for a certain table and were then greeted by a churlish bar tender. When our table was ready we were greeted by a flippant waiter. Our meals were pretty ordinary and on the expensive side for what we had. Wouldn't go again!

“A special dinner”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2012

Great atmosphere and service--unfortunately it was foggy so we couldn't see the ocean. Food was inventive and delicious. The profiterole desert was ridiculousy large--even for 2.

“From "Great" to just "Good"”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

My wife and I have dined at the Cape Arundel Inn 8-10 times over the last 5 years. During that time, the chef, staff and menu remained the same and offered a truly memorable dining experience to match the unparalleled view. It was our favorite restaurant, not just in Kennebunkport, but anywhere! Imagine our surprise when, during our last trip to the area, we returned to the Inn to find a new chef, totally different menu and a completely new staff. Sadly, none compared well to their predecessors. Nothing was seriously amiss, but the food and service were just not at the same level as before. I suspect that new patrons will still enjoy their dining experience, but I think that most returning customers will be disappointed.
