“High recommend - Truly relaxing!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2010

This is a very lovely & low key hotel. It's single story, so no noise above or elevators to deal with and convenient motel style parking. Make no mistake, though, it's a "hotel" in ambience. I am a light sleeper and easily cranky with uncomfortable beds, pillows, etc. The beds were fantastic! I slept very well here. The rooms are large & comfy. My only issue was the plumbing was a little off (i.e. water that runs hot to cold), but that would not be enough to deter me from staying here again.

Beautiful marina views (including George Bush & secret service sightings). What a thrill! Convenient location to walk 5 mins. to Dock Square or about 15 minutes to beaches. Simple patio outside facing the marina.

They serve breakfast & afternoon tea. The staff was very accomodating, though at times trying to keep up at breakfast (need to brew more coffee, run to supplies for more juice, etc.). Overall, though, a nice continental breakfast spread with lovely indoor/outdoor eating space. Very relaxing and newspapers abundant (NY Times, Boston Globe). My only other complaint was (call me a tourist), I was really expecting blueberry muffins or blueberry something at breakfast in Maine in August! Other yummy treats, but no blueberry.

The Yachtsman is a one story, drive up motel (park in front of room) that has been nicely fixed up, with vaulted ceilings, new bath fixtures etc. Room was nice, clean, and quiet. Comfortable beds. I gave a "2" on service not because of unfriendly / unhelpful staff, but because the front desk is only staffed by one person part-time (the owners have other area properties) - service is just not a component of this hotel. "Breakfast" was included in the price, but, honestly, it was pretty nasty - a few cold pastries, cereal, and microwaveable quiche. Guests could not help but literally bump into each other in the cramped room. We chose this hotel at the last minute and because of the convenience – the real estate, in other words (paid $380/night with tax - I remember staying at a comparable facility out west a few years agove for about $280 less!!). Can easily walk to town or beach (small beach on the east side of the “port”). I would recommend this hotel with the above disclosures, but would probably try one of the many other places in the area next time.

Upon arrival we were taken back by the motel strip we were pulling up to. We were pleasantly suprised at the tasteful renovation the motel recieved. It has nautical theme and is very peaceful. Our room was ready a bit early so we moved right in. The view from the room was beautiful. This is a one level motel, so you are able to walk right out off your patio and enjoy the scenic marina. The bed was extremely comfortable. The ceilings are high and have ceiling fans, however it was badly water damaged in many spots, and took away form the beauty of the room. The bathroom was clean except for some mold on the shower curtain and rod. We booked a "deluxe" room. Not sure what was so Deluxe about it. They offer breakfast in the morning which consisted of pastries, fruit salad, cereal, quiche, coffee and bagels. They have a nice eating area or you can take it back to your room. They also offer free canoe and bike rentals for their guests.

Overall it is a nice place and very convenient to shopping and dining. I would't take receptions offer for dinner reservations. Bandaloop and Captain Jacks were great. I would stay here again in the off season when it is not $369 a night.

The Yachtsman is a motel with rooms are on the Kennebunk River. The view is great and the rooms are very private. This is the sixth stay for us. We have two dogs and visit at least once a year. It is the best lodging for dogs because it's one level and easy access areas for the dogs to walk, etc. Very easy for dog owners.

The hotel supplies a continental breakfast and afternoon tea which are delightful. People are friendly and helpful. However, the manager and front desk staff are very young and that can be challenging at times. Located about an 8-minute walk from downtown Kennebunkport, the best way to get to the downtown area is to walk.

I do agree that the rooms are priced too high. However, I agree with other reviewers that the view and privacy make it a little more tolerable. You definitely pay for the view.

These hotel rooms are all on one level with a great view of the river. The hotel supplies a continental breakfast and afternoon tea which really helps to lower meal costs. People are friendly and helpful. Located about an 8-minute walk from downtown Kennebunkport, the best way to get to the downtown area is to walk as parking is very limited.
