Our 3 night stay was fine as we got a great deal. $124 per night 3 persons (2 rooms) B&B. Hotel eco friendly. Evening meal expensive compared to local places and not as good. Everybody wanted tips & they charge you $5 per person per day for those who you didn't tip. I don't think they understand tips are for good service, wages are for people doing their jobs. Great location opposite the ocean. Wouldn't stay there in height of season, but may return when a deal is on.

My husband and took our dog here recently and had a wonderful mini break! The hotel is splendid with spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean. The rooms are spacious and clean with nice amenities. We booked a garden view room; but , we were amazed to find that that the room included a gorgeous ocean view with a glorious sunset. The service is outstanding and the staff are very polite. In particular, the dining experience should not be missed, especially the buffet breakfasts and dinner in the main dining room. I would highly recommend this hotel for a relaxing getaway! This hotel deserves five plus stars!!!

PS For all of the dog lovers, this place should be a must on your list!

As an ardent fan of "grand hotel lobbies"...we saw this grand lady and had to stop in and, check it out...What a pleasant view as soon as you walk in...the veranda overlooks the ocean...we enjoyed afternoon tea...and even had a couple of glasses of cordials toward evening...enjoyed a nap and a lovely sunset...
Enjoyed imaginations of yesteryear with visions of ladies in their big hats, and bustledresses...and men in their suits and derbies...ahhhhhh...what an elegant place and time...We loved it...

Plusses - The Colony is in a beautiful setting. The room in the main building was spacious. Negatives - no concierge (the front desk staff purports to fill this role, though many of the staff are foreign, and not knowledgable about the area- and in some cases not friendly). In mid-August the property was swarming with multigenerational families, many of whom have been coming here for years from what I overheard. Neither parents nor the hotel seemed to have any rules to control the kids. Forget abt a late afternoon nap. Children ran the halls at all hours; sounded like they were jumping on beds above us in the evening. Because the building is old and no a/c (so windows are open), no carpet in halls, there's no soundproofing. Maybe a good place to take kids but not for adults looking for a peaceful environment to enjoy one of the loveliest coastlines in the US. This was not clear from their website.
