Description: In the heart of this mostly residential enclave, in a converted circa-1895 Shingle Style house, sits the Cape Arundel Inn. Though the Inn has existed in one permutation or another since the 1950s, and it has long held a reputation for well-appointed lodgings and fine dining, longtime chef, Rich Lemoine, has ushered the Cape Arundel Inn into a new belle époque. The Innkeepers have filled the building with a striking art collection that could make small New England museums envious, while Chef Lemoine uses the dining room—with its awe-inspiring views and otherworldly seaside light—as a canvas upon which to create epicurean masterpieces. Having led the kitchens at two other local dining destinations—the White Barn Inn and the Salt Marsh Tavern—diners at the Cape Arundel Inn are treated to a chef at the peak of his culinary excellence.

“Nice location, so so food!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2012

This restaurant sits on a lovely place with a beautiful view of the ocean. The host was very nice, offering us several nice table choices. We decided to wait for a certain table and were then greeted by a churlish bar tender. When our table was ready we were greeted by a flippant waiter. Our meals were pretty ordinary and on the expensive side for what we had. Wouldn't go again!

“A special dinner”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2012

Great atmosphere and service--unfortunately it was foggy so we couldn't see the ocean. Food was inventive and delicious. The profiterole desert was ridiculousy large--even for 2.

“From "Great" to just "Good"”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

My wife and I have dined at the Cape Arundel Inn 8-10 times over the last 5 years. During that time, the chef, staff and menu remained the same and offered a truly memorable dining experience to match the unparalleled view. It was our favorite restaurant, not just in Kennebunkport, but anywhere! Imagine our surprise when, during our last trip to the area, we returned to the Inn to find a new chef, totally different menu and a completely new staff. Sadly, none compared well to their predecessors. Nothing was seriously amiss, but the food and service were just not at the same level as before. I suspect that new patrons will still enjoy their dining experience, but I think that most returning customers will be disappointed.

“Something is wrong”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2012

The setting is lovely and the restaurant has many recommendations; so why was our dinner a dining disaster? Perhaps it was an anomaly. Our sense was that something very wrong had just occurred in the kitchen. Our server did everything he could to compensate -- but there's only so much you can do when the food comes out VERY slowly -- and is simply awful. We're pretty mellow in respect to complaining, but, on this occasion, we just had to speak up. It was just as if some stranger - a complete non-chef - had suddenly been placed in charge of the kitchen. Almost every cooking mistake possible was made on our dinners. To be fair, our server was as appalled (and surprised) as we were (he cryptically alluded to staffing issues in the kitchen); and he took both entrees off the bill (the appetizers and wine were passable). So, for both Cape Arundel Inn (loss of income) and for us (loss of a decent meal), the meal was a failure. If our poor experience was not just a passing aberration, then I'd have to recommend that no one try this restaurant - ever. Assuming the night we dined was some kind of strange "off" night, I'd say proceed, but at your own risk.

Hello,
Thank you for taking the time to review your recent dining experience at the Cape Arundel Inn.
Please accept my apology for the utter abomination you experienced on your visit. It is pleasing to hear that your server was able to recognize that something was wrong and remedied it. I have no reason or excuse to offer you regarding your evening , I do sincerely wish that they night had been different and you were able to see and experience the excellence that does typically come from the kitchen. Should you find yourself in Maine again please let us make this horrible experience up to you!
