This was our first visit to the Cape Arundel Inn. As we made arrangements somewhat last minute and rooms were scarce due to the Kennebunk Wine and Food Festival, our only room choice was the "Crow's Nest". When we arrived and expressed our concerns about some aspects of the room, the manager on duty did her best to try to move us, (nothing available) and sent a bottle of champagne and a scrumptious cheese platter to our room, which was much appreciated.
There are positive and negative aspects to the "Crow's Nest". It's in a building behind the main inn, which affords a bit more privacy, I suppose. You cross the parking lot to reach the building and so you are right in the midst of outgoing and incoming traffic, including early morning delivery vehicles, beeping as they back up, so there is a slight noise issue. If you are very tall, you will not appreciate the slanting walls. Also, this room is not direct oceanfront, there is a partial view from the loveseat, (at the top of the slightly steep staircase),which is pretty.
On the positive side, the room was spacious, immaculate, nicely appointed, included a fireplace and the bed was wonderfully comfortable. The bathroom was quite nice, with high quality toiletries.
The front porch of the inn itself, is spectacular. A great place to sit and become mesmerized by the crashing waves, read a complimentary newspaper, enjoy a cocktail or just rest. Breakfast is included with the room rate and is served in the inn's restaurant called Ocean. It is a jewel box of a room, sophisticated but not stuffy, elegant but not overbearing, and the ocean view is sublime. Speaking of sublime, breakfast was superb. We enjoyed the pastry of the day so much, we had to have another! Tender, flaky puff pastry filled with luscious whipped cream and blueberries was a perfect indulgence. An omelet filled with spinach, swiss cheese and carmelized shallots was so delicious, as was the french toast and maple apple sausage.
I'll hold off on any more details until our next visit. The service, the view, and the location definitely warrant another trip, and as we were not lucky enough to try the restaurant for dinner, that will be a top priority for our next visit, which we will schedule in plenty of time to reserve one of the ocean front rooms.
I have a feeling I willl then be able to give the Cape Arundel Inn an excellent rating.

Cape Arundel is an amazing place to stay. We stayed in room 26 overlooking the ocean. The room was beautiful and spotless; the bed was one of the most comfortable I have ever slept in. Breakfast and dinner in the dining room overlooking the ocean (aptly named Ocean) was second to none. Took a long walk along Ocean Ave with so many spots to stop and enjoy the view.It was an amazing, relaxing weekend and we can't wait to go back!!

We have long admired the view at Cape Arundel Inn and finally decided to stay here on a recent trip. The ocean views from the front and east side of the Inn can't be beat. The newly redone lobby, lounge and restaurant are beautifully appointed. Too bad the restaurant food didn't live up to the the design aesthetics. The food was bland, the bread and accompanying sides seemed to be afterthoughts, and espresso was delivered luke warm. Our room was small, which is not surprising in an old inn, the bed was comfortable, but there didn't appear to be any sound insulation between rooms. Our neighbors awoke early (5:30 AM) each morning and we could hear them as they talked in normal voices. So, overall, we were not impressed and do not plan to stay here again.

Dear Maureen S

Thank you for your review of the Inn and Ocean restaurant. We are glad to read that you enjoyed the Inn. All the rooms in our Inn are beautifully unique, all different styles and sizes and with full ocean views. We do offer a lot of choices.
We are sorry to hear that you were disturbed by the guests next door and, of course, disappointed that you did not have a good experience at our restaurant 'Ocean'.
It has such an outstanding reputation for its food, style, presentation, service and the amazing ocean views. We are so sorry we did not live up to your expectations.
We always appreciate any feedback we receive and we thank you for taking the time to write this review.

We join the Cape Arundel Inn early May in special and unplanned circumstances after a sudden great loss in our life.

The location was very inspiring and relaxing. All people from staff were very warm and truly comprehensive. We could not have made a better choice and we felt lucky to breathe the salty air directly from our great room (#25) just facing the bold ocean or able to watch the sparkly stars at night from the private balcony. Wonderful. Delicious breakfasts where you can combine many options up to your taste and a very fine dinner at Ocean restaurant one evening in the superb decorated dining room overlooking the ocean have completed the full picture for these few days spent at this remote and so quiet place.

We will return at Cape Arundel Inn, undoubtedly.

We stayed two nights at the Inn and loved every minute. From the warm welcome with Champagne to the check out with departing gift. The room was beautiful, comfortable, & spacious.
We stayed in room #3 which has a beautiful view of the ocean. We used their bicycles to tour Kennebunkport and surrounding area. Stopped at Frasers Jacks for a cold one on their patio. Very idyllic. We were giving wonderful suggestions for lunch and dinner. As the Inn's dining room for dinner was not open yet. We went to Mabel's and had their Savannah Lobster meal. Superb! Then David's the next night. Again delicious. Their breakfast is one of the best we ever had. The chef came out to make sure of it....they also sent us off with fresh made muffins....:))))))......would highly recommend Cape Arundel Inn.

Just stayed at the Inn for the first time for my wife's birthday. We got a terrific oceanfront room with a king bed, fireplace and balcony. Very comfortable and clean; the wifi could be sketchy at times but they are looking into it. The bathroom could use some more shelving but we managed fine. We had dinner at the Ocean restaurant our first evening and it was just perfect. The Inn has a wonderful atmosphere and the food was exceptionally good. Very fresh and creative. Breakfast by Michael is out of this world (you can tell when someone loves their work) and included in the room rate. The servers were very attentive and warm and service was well-timed and efficient. The front desk staff-Elizabeth and Angela- were genuinely interested in our well-being and comfort and made such a positive impression. So, we'll be back. Soon I hope.

Room Tip: Do go for a room with a balcony facing the ocean.
