“Good food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2012

We enjoyed our meal here. They had nice live entertainment (it was on a Aaturday night) and the woman had a beautiful voice. Food was well prepared and well presented. It was little expensive but a good meal. We had the lobster and shrimp pasta dish, ribs & mac-n-cheese, filet mignon, and halibut and all were all great.

Thanks so much for your kind remarks about our food! We aim to please and are always delighted to hear when people enjoy our efforts! We have live entertainment nearly every night (the only nights we don't are when there is a group such as a wedding that would be disrupted) Many locals come on a regular basis for cocktails and dessert just to enjoy our music!
Enjoy the rest of this beautiful summer and thanks again for writing!

“Ambiance lacking”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2012

We dined at this restaurant as part of the "Lobsters Alive" package that included a steamed/stuffed baked lobster and dessert for 2. This package did not include any alcoholic beverages or appetizers. The food itself was delicious. We started with the spicy Thai mussels that were perfectly seasoned. The stuffed baked lobsters included lightly steamed vegetables and rice. I had the blueberry pie with cinnamon ice cream and my husband had the blueberry panna cotta. Both were lovely.

The service was good however, the resort tends to hire younger staff who were not very experienced in offering wine pairings.

Ambiance was lacking! As one reviewer had already mentioned, the restaurant looks like an old age home banquet hall. Not romantic in the least bit! We had made a reservation for 8pm and the restaurant was only 1/4 full. Apparently we were told service ends at 9:30pm??? Although we were not rushed out of the restaurant, it was uncomfortable to be there alone while staff were cleaning.

If it weren't for the package that we prepaid for, we would have dined elsewhere.

The Lobsters Alive Package is one of our most popular packages and I am delighted to hear how much you enjoyed the food!
Our servers are mostly young (we are a seasonal business) but we have a great Dining Room Manager as well as a great Bar Manager who are both very well versed at pairing wines.
I am wondering what room you had dinner in. There are usually only three possible places we serve dinner: Our our lovely screened in Front Porch, on our open air Patio and in our water view River Room. I am not sure which of these three places you were but in any case I am sorry you did not like the ambiance!
Thanks for taking time to write this review!

“Stay At Nonantum, Eat Breakfast Not Dinner”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2012

We've stayed at the Nonantum several times and love it, always in Portside rather than the inn. The front desk and housekeeping staff are awesome. Breakfast is included in the room rate and the selection is always fresh, wonderful, and plentiful, and the waitstaff pleasant. In the summer, the waitstwff staff is largely college or high school students. Having read that TV Diner gave 95 Ocean ( the address of the resort, and what they call the ballroom/ breakfast room for evening dinner), we decided to make a reservation for dinner during one night of our stay. While the food presentation was lovely, we found the service to be poor and the food quality to be erratic. The couple dining next to us sent their, entrees back formfurther cooking ( one was a fish, one was a beef). With entrees in the $25 - $30 ramge, this is unacceptable. I had the seafood paella ($30) which came with overcooked lobster meat and almost raw " seared" scallop. My husband' s 'Manhattan was served to him over ice,and was made with whiskey instead of served straight up in a chilled glass and made with bourbon. It was corrected when we requested it be fixed. For a $100 dinner bill, plus 20% gratuity, it wasnt up to what we have come to expect of the Nonantum. We were only one of four couples dining at thst time. We prefer Hurricane's or Mabel's for dinner, but still give the Nonantum high marks for lodging and breakfast and accommodating staff.

I am so sorry your visit to our restaurant did not meet your expectations! We are a seasonal resort and we do have a lot of young people working for us. This does not suggest that service is not a priority! We do a great deal of training with our young staff and I think demand a lot of them. Some nights things don't go exactly the way we would like, and the customer would like. When this happens we try to make up for our mistakes, as we did with your husbands drink.
We are not perfect, but we do our best and hope that you will give us another chance for dinner! You will not be sorry!
Warm Regards,

“Skip it”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2012

Ate there midweek. The service was very friendly but pretty slow given that we were maybe the third table to arrive. The pork belly appetizer was the best part. The shrimp and lobster sautée was ok but under seasoned and there really wasn't any lobster in it. My husband got the baked stuffed lobster which he said was just fair. All in all expensive for what it was. Would stay at the resort, but eat elsewhere.

“Great place to stay but restaurant bad.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2012

Beautiful place to stay, but get a room on top floor as you can hear people overhead walking around. Same vibrations when waitresses walk around in dining room. Actually shakes the table. Prime rib was rubbery, go someplace else to eat.
