Description: Abbondante’s menu is true to its name, offering generous portions of thoughtful Italian preparations. Fresh, homemade pasta is prepared daily for family favorite dishes like spaghetti and meatballs and ravioli with ricotta filling and more inventive dishes like tagliatelle with hazelnut brown butter, rabbit confit, spinach and chevre, and papperedelle with agro dolce pork, sausage and pickled chilis. Pizzas cooked in the wood-burning oven include classics, pizza margherita with tomato, basil, mozzarella and extra virgin olive oil, as well as the more imaginative, such as pizza salsiccia with sausage, pickled chilis, provolone and roasted peppers. The menu is rounded out with comfort specialties like eggplant and chicken parmesan, meatball heroes and lasagna.

“Fair Service and Food--Not Worth It”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 17, 2015

We had tried Abbondante when it first opened and didn't have a great experience, so we decided to try it again a year later. Oops. We only ended up there because every other restaurant had a long wait on this holiday weekend Saturday night. They had plenty of seating--first clue. The atmosphere in the restaurant is still great--though the mix of quotes on the wall from world figures and locals seemed a bit self-indulgent. A few constructive observations: when you walk in the front door, you have to dodge the busy wait staff as they move back and forth right in the way of patrons trying to get to the front desk--very odd layout. Restaurant was too dark to read the menus--several diners using cell phone lights to read the menu. We had a new waiter who was friendly and really tried hard, but it was clear he needed more training. His manager would team up with him at our table, but the more experienced guy wasn't that friendly or helpful. Appetizers were tasty but not enough dressing on mixed greens salad. But things went downhill from there. There were four of us--and the entrees were served at separate times. Chicken parmesan was served in skillet that was way too hot. Rubbery and off-putting taste. Angel hair pasta was extra dry. Orecchiette Sausage, Broccoli, Garlic was served to one diner who immediately asked for parmesan cheese. Never arrived--waiter completely forgot and manager never came back to see how we were doing. The server, to his credit, did take off the inedible entrees off the bill which was classy and much appreciated. Strike two for us--we really want to like this place and the building is terrific but they still don't seem to have it together for service and food that's worth the wait and the price.

“Excellent Italian restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2015

This Italian restaurant is in the center of Kennebunk, and it's very attractive. The staff was friendly, and they are willing to make reservations for large parties (I was in a group of 22). Our waitress did a great job of getting our orders in, billing sorted correctly, all with a friendly, helpful demeanor.
So - really nice setting, great staff. But the important thing is that the menu gave a great range of choices, and the meals were really, really good. I had lasagna, and it was so good I felt so glad I had ordered it. Others all remarked that their entree choices were excellent too.
This is a good bet for a good meal out. We were there in winter, and I suspect in season, one would want to make reservations. Whenever I'm in Kennebunk again, I will go back!

Dear jlforemf,
Thank you for taking the time to write us a two star review based on you never stepping foot into our restaurant. We were closed for a quick winter break post New Year's Eve. We are now open & would love for you to come back and actually experience our little place. During the off season we are open from Wednesday - Sunday beginning at 5p for your reference.
Please feel free to email me directly at merrileep@gmail.com si I can place your reservation for you.
I apologize you were inconvenienced during our break.

“Great food,service and atmosphere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 6, 2014 via mobile

This was our first trip here ,although we had been to this location when it housed another restaurant. After this trip we would rate it our favorite Italian restaurant in the area.i had pasta with sausage & peppers. My wife had shrimp scampi& our son had chicken parmesan. Everyone considered their entree excellent. We each had a great salad too. The decor is tasteful. It was very busy with Christmas prelude underway in Kennebunkport ,just steps away, but the restaurant was running smoothly. Our server was a young lady that our son knows from another establishment. She is charming, positive and capable. We will definitely return to Abbodante before long.

“I already want to go back”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2014

The atmosphere was fantastic and the meals were incredible. The restaurant was busy and therefore our service suffered a bit from it but it was worth the wait!
