“Overrated, expensive, tourist TRAP!!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2010

We stopped here for a late lunch on Saturday afternoon. We got a lobster roll (that claimed to have 1lb of meat but it did not), a crab roll, and cup of chower, and a small french fry - and it cost $38. The food tasted good - but was way over priced and very small portions. Would skip this place next time and just go to one of the small lobster shacks outside of town.

“A "must go here every year" place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2010

Been eating here since I was a kid and it's so nice to see that nothing has changed . (well, except the prices). Our favorites are the scallops, lobster roll and the haddock. Who knew haddock could be so delicious! Yes, it's expensive for food from a take out window, but it's worth every single penny. Everything is prepared fresh and we've yet to find a place that beats the quality of the food.

“Best Seafood ANYWHERE ever!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2009

If you have one meal to eat in Kennebunk be sure to eat it at (or more like take it out) at The Clam Shack. It is a true Maine experience- order your food at the window, and sit in the parking lot to eat. The Fried Clams are the BEST I have ever had--great scallops, chowder and Fish and Chips. Another hint is if you are entertaining a crowd at home goe to Fish Market next door and order as many lobsters steamed to go. They will steam and wrap them up and they stay hot for over an hour in a stryofoam cooler. YUM--thinking about it makes me miss Maine summers.

“Poor value for money and overrated”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2009

We decided to have lunch here having had so many recommendations. The clam and shrimp lunches were tasteless and very expensive for what they were.

“Happy as a Clam”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2009

Every year the clam shack is a must visit for us. After reading the other reviews you might think we go there for the clams or lobster roll but we actaully go for the fried haddock. It is pricey to be sure at 17 bucks but it is delicious. This is a restaurant you walk to, rather than park and eat at. Find a parking space somewhere in town and stop to eat when you know you will be walking around town. There is little to no parking. The best part is taking your meal and going behind the shack to their small dock overlooking the river. Enjoy the views of the river and the boats and the people walking over the bridge. Very relaxing. Did I say the Haddock is excellent? Very flaky and tender. The batter is wonderful. It falls apart when you eat it. You get very big hunks of fish. You can lean on the railing and throw french fries at the seagulls. Never throw the haddock. It is too good (and too expensive to feed the gulls). We joked once that I dropped a little piece of haddock on the ground and said ooops there goes 5 bucks wasted. I can't vouch for their clams or lobster, but most casual conversations we have had with other patrons seem to be that they are enjoying the food. This is one of the reasons I put up with Winter in New England. Maine in the Summer is worth it and the Clamshack also makes the 5 months or Winter worth the wait.
