“Good Value -- fabulous view!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2008

We like this traditional B&B...located in a small working lobster town in Jonesport, ME. If you want to see true coastal Maine this is a great place for it. Great value, standard/fairly basic rooms. Innkeepers are nice and extremely helpful...really go out of their way to ensure you have options on how to spend your day...they are very well versed on local/close by things to do and downeast Maine. This is a great place if you are looking for true value on the Maine coast (directly on the water...wonderful views of the coast/harbor) Wouldn't recommend if you looking are looking for shopping...would recommend if you are looking for outdoor pursuits.

  • Disliked — Availability of dining options...but that wasn't an issue, we enjoyed the quiet less touristy feel.

I'm on two minds writing a review of this lovely property because I think the owners, despite all their warm hospitality and conscientious manner, would rather see Jonesport remain the secluded, quiet, un-touristy and absolutely charming place that it is today.
We stayed in the "Rose" room, and the theme is pervasive: it's found on wall paper, pictures, bedspreads and quotes of "rose" poetry are even stenciled on the walls. It's all lovingly done. Even if you might find this very personalized decor too, well... rosy, your not likely to find a more typical "downeast" view than the one offered from the room's picture windows. From here you can watch the lobster boats go in and out and breathe in the fresh sea air; for people who like solitude and contemplation this is about as good as it gets. If you get tired of that you can always head out to the garden or visit their antique and curiosity shop located on the first floor of this historic home.
Jonesport is off the main north-south highway and for really good dining you'll probably have to head back to Machias where there are a number of fine restaurants. There are lots of nature activities on this bit of peninsula, and the owners have many suggestions and recommendations for pleasant outings. Breakfast - very nicely done - is included with the stay.

My husband and I just stayed for 2 nights at the Harbor House. Our room overlooked the port and we watched the lobster boats come and go. Jonesport is a quaint town with 1 restaurant and a few sights to see in the fall. We called in advance and the restaurant owner walked across the street and picked up a 3 pound lobster for my husband from the dock which my husband said was the best he ever had.

Our room was very clean, comfortable and, although not fancy, we felt relaxed and welcome. Gene and Maureen were lovely and gracious hosts and Maureen's breakfasts were wonderful. We talked with many of the people who lived in town and plan to return during the summer to see the Puffins. If you like comfort, warmth and a beautiful setting, visit the Harbor House.
