“Very, very good! A must try if you can get a table!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2013

My friends and I called up and begged for a reservation very last minute, to which they obliged. The only downside was that the table wasn't actually read when we arrived and we had to wait about 15 minutes. Luckily, it was worth the wait! I had a shrimp and scallop pesto pasta - with amazing homemade fettucine - and it was delicious! My friends all enjoyed their dinners as well. We tried the blueberry pie for dessert, which was fabulous as well! A must try!

“Great pub”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2013

Had lunch there after visiting the Maine State Museum in Augusta. Terrific menu, daily specials, very cordial and friendly wait staff, the food was absolutely perfect and the beer choices are very good. Had a Pemaquid Stout that went well with my meal. Reasonably priced for lunch---it was $30 for two including drinks---before tip. What a neat experience along the river in Hallowell Maine. A town on the comeback.

“Stood the test of time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2013

We began eating at Slates over twenty five years ago. It is our absolute favorite. You can tell that they take great pride in what they do. Love their drinks, love that there is so little turnover in the staff, love the ambience. Thank you Slates!

“Always excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2013

Slate's is an Hallowell institution that's survived fire and floods. The restaurant and bakery and take out shop next door produce consistently excellent, locally sourced foods (and an interesting wine list) on a changing menu that follows the seasons. Slates, a community resource, supports local artists with rotating displays as well as hosting Monday night entertainment. Worth a trip.

“Another overpriced & overrated eatery Hallowell!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2013

Anyone who knows The State Of Maine, knows that Hallowell is the Gay capital of the entire state. Slates is among the handful of homosexual restaurants/bars in Hallowell. Their food is overpriced & highly overrated, as there was absolutely nothing special about it. The service was slow & lousy. The music from the acoustic musician was pathetic & amateur, not to mention the attire of the musician was a throwback from the 60's. I'd seriously suggest singing lessons. For the price of our meal & drinks one would expect Jack Johnson & Ben Harper to be performing instead of the joke that was. Stay clear of this poor excuse for a restaurant.
