After a number of visits I have come to the conclusion that the Swan is perfect for any occasion, especially since the new menu came out after Christmas. It is one of the most friendly, welcoming places you could go and whether we're popping in for a quick pint, wanting a sandwich and chips after a long walk, a romantic dinner for two or a full on family meal it's always excellent. The quality of the food is always high and I defy anyone to find a better Club Sandwich. The presence of pub favourites alongside an ever changing, seasonal specials menu sets it apart from the run of the mill pub grub.
The beer is well kept, but it would be lovely to have another guest alongside the Everard's favourites. Saying that there are sometimes when only a good pint of Tiger will do! There are also good, out of the ordinary lagers and stouts on draft which lift the drinking experience beyond what you would normally expect. I should mention that the wine is also very good, and the staff knowledgeable and always happy to recommend something to suit.
The pub itself is a proper thatched country pub with the interior a perfect balance of old world charm and modern comforts. The wood stove is perfect for long winter evenings and cosy Sunday lunches, the deck and garden to the rear perfect for summer afternoon drinks or alfresco dining (there are heaters to extend those hazy summer evenings).
Definitely worth the trip, and if you find yourself staying longer than intended (we normally do!), the staff are always on hand to order a cab and make sure you get home safely. You can thank them next time you visit!
