“Poor outside lighting and security issues”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2013

I took the advice of Trip Advisor and picked this Inn. As I was only staying a few hours I only wanted a very clean room. This Inn is not advisable for the solo woman traveler checking in at dark. The Inn itself is out of town and isolated. Even the front sign lighting is poor. Parking lot is poorly lit in the front and almost non existent in the back with untrimmed ,shrubs by the windows in the back. When I expressed my concerns about " things" happening the girl at the front desk said "this is Maine". Well, Portland is about 15 miles away. I only stayed because of the cleanliness and the nice clean appearance of the front desk personel. But I was not comfortable. Checked my car in the AM as it had been left in the dark most of the night. I would not stay again due to the very poor lighting and I was a solo woman traveler.

Very sorry that customer felt insecure. Although this is the first such response I can understand why it is important to the customer. The lighting is as specified and verified by Freeport planning and similar to all other Lodging in town and completely updated 10 years ago. Freeport probably does specify less lighting than other locations as they have a policy of trying to not appear as a strip mall. Our shrubbery is growing great and some is due for trimming in the spring. Since starting at this location 26 years ago we have never had a security or illegal incident on the property. We plan to check with some other customers to see if they have any unnoted concerns.

Having been going to Freeport every couple of years for awhile, I decided to change from our usual motel. We were very happy I did! Very clean, comfortable and convenient. Our old place was showing it's age and Casco Bay Inn was a very pleasant surprise for the money. if you are looking for value, this is it!

Room Tip: Our room was in front on the roadside of the building but wasn't noisy at all.

We've stayed there several times before, and we are still impressed by this facility each time we visit. It has been always been clean and quiet, yet so handy to downtown Freeport and all the attractions. The owners have done an excellent job of keeping this hotel top hotch lodging with very reasonable rates. The reviews here on Trip Advisor tell the story. We wouldn't consider making a change - The Casco Bay Inn has consistently been a great place to stay when visiting Freeport. I wish we could find other hotels this nice when traveling to other destinations!

Room Tip: We've always chose the rear side, but the hotel sits back far enough from the road that it proba...

We decided to spend the night in Freeport on our way to northern Maine. Relying on the reviews on Tripadvisor, we booked at this motel. While not luxurious, or even upscale, by any stretch, it was clean and comfortable. It served its purpose well and is a great value.

We stayed here on a quick visit to Freeport and the Bean stores last weekend. We had chosen the Casco Bay Inn because it was rated # 1 in Freeport by Tripadvisor. It is a rating justifiably deserved. The Inn is clean, the rooms very tastefully decorated and clean, the staff very helpful, the breakfast selection good. My kids were very happy with that. It was everything we could want. The only possible downside was the 5 minute ride to downtown and actually that worked out great for us because we found Gritty's Pub on the way into town and we ate there on the way out of town. We will definitely stay again when we go back.

This hotel has a warm and welcoming feel to it. I like the display of tea-pots and other collectables on the hallway shelves. The staff is very friendly and the room very clean. The heat was very easy to adjust and very quiet. The room was spacious and has a small table with 2 chairs - enough room to enjoy a great pizza from Pat's pizza. My recommendation is that the hotel provide a few take-out menus of some of the local restaurants. The breakfast selection is minimal, but sufficient.

We stayed here on a recent business trip, and it was well worth the great rates. Simple continental breakfast, friendly staff, clean and comfortable room, great location for all things in the Freeport/Yarmouth/Portland area. Would definitely stay here again when in the region!
