My wife and I were on our honeymoon in 1995 on a very limited budget. We decided to head north to the great state of Maine from Connecticut. We were driving along US1 when we saw the Maine Idyll. We stopped and were surprised that there were cabins available on a holiday weekend (July 4th) with no reservations. Even though it was warm, we lit the fireplace and enjoyed the soiltude. After returning to Connecticut, we reccommended the Idyll to anyone travelling to Freeport. We look forward to staying there again in March while on vacation.
P.S. The blueberry muffins in the morning were excellent!!! Keep up the good work!

I don't know what's with the person from Madawaska, Maine, but our experience with the Maine Idyll was completely different. Charming.
Woodsy. The only drawback was being so close to Highway 1, but the fan in the room covered that noise. Hey, if you want a five-star motel with all the amenities, go to one and pay high prices. If you want a little bit of nostalgia and peace and quiet, go to the Idyll. I agree with Madawaska on one point: It's like going back to the 1930s. And that is the idea of it. They've kept it like it was originally, and in this fast-paced world...it is a blessing. You rock, Maine Idyll!!!

This place is terrible. We reserved 2 cabins one for ourselves and one for our friends. Our cabin was horrible we thought we stepped into a scence from a Steven King Movie. It was dark, small, smelly, and dirty.
Our friends cabin was only slightly better. We could not stay there we asked if there was anything better they only had an appartment so we took that even though this was not that great either. Luckily we were only there one night. When morning came we hurried out of there. Don't expect phones or clocks or anything clean if you stay here. I feel bad writting this cause the owner was a sweet little elderly lady but this place should be inspected and remodeled. I am from northern Maine and I hope this place doesn't make out of staters think we all live in little cabins in the woods that make the 'Little house on the prairie' look like a castel.

For the past 28 years I have passed by Maine Idyll, with intentions of trying the facility...Glad I finally did...Authentic rustic cabins...clean as a whistle and great hosts...Some say a little close to the highway...I say a great respite from the super motels and over priced bed n breakfasts on Route 1...Sure to please...and don't worry about Dinner...Ask someone how to get to Cook's Lobster Pound outside of Brunswick...about a 3/4 hour drive, but the ride is spectacular...Kudos to Maine Idyll!

P.S. You can buy the art on the walls...

Every year we visit the state of Maine and stop in Freeport on our way to Acadia. The Maine Idyll Motor Court are separate cottages nestled in the trees...some with their own fireplaces but all with the simple rustic ambience enjoyed in less hectic times. They are on the outskirts of Freeport, away from the "tourists" and owned by the same family for many years. Clean, reasonable rates, a front porch and no phones.
