“A fine place for lunch in Ellsworth.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2013

We stopped in Ellsworth for lunch on our way to Acadia National Park and happened upon the Riverside Cafe. Because they serve breakfast all day, I was able to order blueberry pancakes, which were huge and delicious. The serving was so generous, I couldn't finish them. On the other hand, my husband ordered off the lunch menu. He had the fish and chips for a decent price. Although we didn't order dessert, we couldn't help but notice the revolving displays of mouth watering cakes and pies. The menu was quite varied. The daily specials included a variety of quiches.

“If you like cold toast and burnt food, this is this is the place for you!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013 via mobile

Have eaten both breakfast and lunch on several past visits over the years and the food has always been outstanding. Today's breakfast visit sucked! After quite a wait to place our order, then a 30+ minute wait for our food, our food arrived. Grilled muffin burnt, homefries very dark and soggy, corned beef hash burnt, egg over cooked, and cold toast. Waitstaff did not offer refills or water during our wait nor check up on us after we were served our food. Probably a good thing as would gotten an earfull!

“Very disappointing!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2013 via mobile

We had heard such great reviews of the Riverside from both locals and visitors so we were excited to eat there for lunch. After parking in the back and walking through the horrible smelling corridor we were accommodated with a table for 8. We got our drink orders and finally were asked for our lunch orders. Nervously we noticed tables around us eagerly awaiting their meals...this went on for a long time. We finally were served out meals intermittently. Our food was
cold (a cold toasted bagel and cold French fries) and otherwise ok. What we find most disappointing was how we were ignored while we waited the 40
Minutes for our food: no refills, no explanations for the wait, and no water. If the waiter had come over to talk to us about the wait we would have been fine. Needless to say, instead we were disappointed.

“Should have eaten at home!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2013 via mobile

Our family ate lunch at the Riverview Cafe on Saturday, July 20, 2013 upon the recommendation of my brother who dined at the cafe for lunch earlier in the week. The service was horrendous, to the point that I asked our server after we settled our bill why the service was so slow (they were backed up in the kitchen) "sorry". No check-ins or updates during our 30-40 minute wait or offer to refill our beverages. Chowder delicious, kids enjoyed the smoothies, toasted bagel was cold along as were the fries. Salads heavy on iceberg, unless you ordered the spinach salad special that was very good. Excellent grilled cheddar on honey wheat with onions and tomatoes. Tasty ginger dressing on the salad . Desserts looked interesting, but we had no interest in sticking around to sample them. Disappointing outing for all!

“Won't be going back”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2013

We have always enjoyed the Riverside Cafe until our visit this year. The place was dirty and the food was just thrown on the plates. The floor was littered with food and we watched a waitress spill milk on the floor...and when we left 20 minutes latter the milk was still on the floor. Not a pleasant experience at all. The menu is pretty much the same but just not as carefully prepared as in previous years. The change in ownership has really hurt.
