I don't understand how this didn't get all 5 star reviews.
Unless it's because this restaurant didn't follow "the herd" and devote all it's outside space and menu to extolling the Maine lobster.
After spending several weeks in an RV traveling north through New England I am sick to death of eating tasteless lobster and seafood. Imagine this statement comes from a couple who rarely if ever eats beef or pork. We love eating fish, but we are so disappointed in the dozens of expensive and tasteless lobster and fish dishes we have been served. Lobster rolls, where restaurants place 4-6 ounces of tasteless lobster meat on a hot dog bun and charge up to $19.99. The customer has to be imaginative by adding some taste in the form of a a dressing out of a plastic packet or bottle.
So we were so pleased to find this fantastic pub/restaurant where every item on the menu was SOOO different and imaginative. I don't remember seeing lobster mentioned, HOORAY!!!
Our group of four had steak and mushroom pie, corned beef with cabbage, carrots, potato and onions, bangers and mash, chicken and mashed potatoes. All big portions, cooked to perfection. Their corned beef is made themselves, delicious.
We watched customers around us who had ordered mussels, another had the 12 ounce steak, they both looked big and very tempting.
Lots of beers on draught, I had draught cider, generous hand pours on liquor.
Desserts were so big you have to share between four or take some home.
Live folk music was playing after 7.
We went on Saturday night and when we left at 8 PM the restaurant and bar were packed, with an equal mix of tourists and locals.
Service was great, servers knew their stuff, and were happy as well.
We all left stuffed, happy, and raving about this find!
A little piece of authentic Ireland at far more reasonable prices than all of the tasteless lobster alternatives.
