5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2013 via mobile

Lets see it was a great experience!! A lot better than staying at a chain hotel. Nice and quiet and away from it all. King size bed room and it was towards the back of the property. The owners were very nice and friendly. Mr. Owner was very informative and all his recommendations were just as he said. Fabulous stay the decor was very nice and if uou want big hotel chain with a lot of noise and out of control people then do not stay here. Need to get away from the crowds of big hotels then stay here!!! When we come back to Acadia and the surrounding areas we will definitely stay here.

My wife has stayed here several times but this summer's visit to Maine included an extended stay at the Twilite. The owners are very cordial and pleasant... the room was most adequate and the cereal/muffin/pastry/fruit breakfast offering was terrific..and a nice place to chat with other visitors. Very close to downtown Ellsworth and easy driving to Bar Harbor and other coastal sites. We will be back!

We stayed here 2 nights and were happy with the room (out back), the price, and the location. The room was exceptionally clean! I would have appreciated a protein source at breakfast, though, and peanut butter or hard-boiled eggs would be an easy addition. We'll stay here again if we return to the area.

I love this place. The owners have taken the sort of old-style motel I remember as a kid (right down to actual room keys with brass fobs) and made it funky and delightful with extra touches -- open, beam ceilings in some rooms or perhaps a grecian-style tub insert. Also with little things, like decent soap and an emergency sewing repair kit! The office entrance, with its fountain, its plants, and its enclosed patio, looks like something you'd find in Big Sur or Key West. And the folks who run the place are nice too -- good-natured and helpful. They obviously take pride in what they have. Everything is clean and well presented, and the lawns and gardens outside are actually worth wandering around. I look forward to staying there again.

My wife and I booked our room here based on the other reviews. We agree with those who spoke highly of the owners. They were indeed very friendly and we enjoyed the atmosphere at breakfast, when we met several other guests and had some good chats. That said, we were somewhat disappointed overall. The room was smaller than we were expecting based on the photos (Room 12 - a "standard" room). Also, the bed was long overdue for a new mattress. It had a "list" to one side and was not particularly comfortable. Room was clean -- and towels were surprisingly large and thick for a motel in this category. But having to crawl over the bed to get in (it was against the wall) was not what we were hoping for. I also thought the grounds were pretty weedy and ill-kept. Not nearly as attractive as the photos would indicate. Would I be back? Perhaps -- but not one of those "keepers" some "gems" I've found on Tripadvisor have been.

Room Tip: Not Room 12!

We just spent 3 nights at the Twilite Motel and really enjoyed them. We had the choice of staying at the Hampton Inn in Ellsworth or the Twilite and are so glad we chose the Twilite Motel. It is a small motel, but very well run and very clean. It lets you feel the flavor of the area. The owners live at the motel and are very nice and helpful. The breakfast is pretty basic, but that was all we needed. We definitely will stay here again if we are ever in the area.

Room Tip: Definitely call the hotel to make your reservations. It does save money and you speak directly with...

Nice choice for the night we stayed! The room was clean, the bathroom renovated and the owner most helpful and friendly and provided excellent recommendations for dinner! This was certainly a great find for the price. Although our room was dark and dated, it was clean and had all of what we needed. The bathroom was bright and cheery and well-maintained. Breakfast was just okay. The toaster was in high demand and peanut butter and fat free milk would have been welcome. A great find, none-the-less!
