The cafe offerings at East Boothbay General would be appropriate for the Hamptons, but the surroundings and the proprietors make it a perfect low-key comfy Maine place. We happened upon it during a drive around; when we asked the proprietor, who has an obvious British accent, how he ended up in Maine, he responded "I won the lottery." and he acts like he means it. We were cheerfully served fabulous veggie wraps with the freshest veggies and hummus, but there were great sounding upscale sandwiches and salads on the boards, all at very reasonable non-Hampton prices. They also had a wide selection of homemade breads, a great wine selections, and a place that is filled with charm. We're happy we found it!
