“Artistic Heaven”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2012

Just finished a two week workshop with Mark Hartung in mixed media. If you are a maker, you MUST go to Haystack. You have nothing to do except attend great workshops, lectures and slide presentations. The food supplied by the excellent kitchen will astound you.

“Former student experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2012

Haystack is a JEWEL if you want to study with the best of the best (world class artists) in clay, glass, fibers, metals and design. The evening programs are free and I never miss them if I am on the island. They have tours for the public and charge a small fee but evening slide shows are free.

“Wonderful place to visit anytime”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2012

This is a world class school for craft artisans. If you visit during a session, you can see various works in progress. There are weekly evening lectures by the instructors during the summer months. Check the schedule.

Better yet, if you are considering attending the school, DO IT! It was one of the best educational experiences I have ever had. Plus, the food was excellent. Sorry, not a public restaurant, so no visitors can dine in, but you will be a well-fed student (of any age).

“A shrine of place, history, and art.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2012

An incredible center for art-making, even off-season filled with a feeling for the grandeur of nature and the place of people within it. A visit to Haystack must include a stop in Stonington, and if time allows, a trip to Isle Au Haut.
