“Beautiful historic Inn”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2013

This was our first time to Deer Isle and just loved the relaxed beauty of the area. We enjoyed Pilgrim's Inn, and will definitely return. Very friendly, the room was well appointed and spotlessly clean, and the breakfast was delicious. Be sure not to miss this Inn!

We were in Deer Isle this past week visiting family, and this was the second time we've stayed at this wonderful B&B. Last year my wife and I along with our two teenage sons stayed in the Inn, but this year, we brought along our two cocker spaniels, so we stayed in the Rugosa Rose Cottage which allows dogs. The cottage is a two story separate standing building, next to the main Inn. There are views of the beautiful lake from the private deck as well as from the upstairs bedroom. And the grassy area outside has nice areas to take a short secluded walk around the grounds. While our purpose of the visit was to visit family, there is much to do in this area. Kayaking, hiking, sightseeing at Isle au Haut or even a day trip to Acadia Mastional Park are just a few of the great attractions. Even golf is an option. OF course, the Inn itself is a great place to hang out. We had dinner at the attached Whale's Rib Restaurant. What a great dinner. My son had the Rib Eye and raved about how juicy and tender it was. My Mom and son had the burger which was absolutely huge! My wife and I both had the halibut special, and it was delicious. Cocktails were great - of course - and dessert, along with some single malt, really capped off dinner. Breakfast in the restaurant also is delicious. We were served scrambled egg and goat chees quesadillas one day, french toast and sausage another, and of course there is the buffet with fresh fruit, yogurt, cereals, muffins, etc...Really a great way to start your day. Tina and Tony really have a wonderful place and know how to treat their guests right. We will be staying here every year when we make our annual trip for the family reunion!

Room Tip: website does a great job describing the rooms.

We spent one night in Deer Isle on our way to a week's stay in Winter Harbor. We drove from the airport in Portland stopping in Freeport and other small towns. We arrived an hour before our reservation at the Whale's Rib restaurant in the Inn (make reservations). Our room was a lovely second floor room facing the cove across the street. It was very clean and comfortable. There was a very tiny bathroom in the room which was spotless and more than adequate. The inn was full and we were surprised at how very quiet it was despite being Friday night and having the restaurant and bar open. Coffee, tea, and fresh cookies are always available. The common rooms were comfortable and true to the decor of this 1700's Inn. Breakfast is included and delicious. We had fresh tomato, cheese, and chive omlettes with fruit and toast. Breakfast is served in the Whale's Rib restaurant. Make sure you have dinner there!

Room Tip: The website has complete descriptions and pictures of each room. They are all very nice.

Spent the weekend there for my nieces wedding. Very comfortable, beautiful location. Comfortable bed, nice amenities, such as a library, board games, bar, fine dining. The breakfasts were out of this world!Friendly and efficient staff. The village location is nice as there are a interesting shops to visit. The Inn itself is right on the water with gardens and a sweeping lawn with adirondack chairs right on a cove. I would certainly stay there again.

This was the third time we'd stayed at the Pilgrim's Inn, and as usual, it was a sheer delight. Service, attention, free cookies and lots of extra little touches, innkeepers and staff who really keep on top of everything and CARE about their guests.

We were driving along the coast and looking for somewhere off of the well beaten track. We found Deer Isle on the map and considered staying in Stonington. However, when we looked into small inns and b&bs, we stumbled across the Pilgrim's Inn and were so glad we did. It was one of our very favorites of all time. The Deer Isle village is tiny, tiny...with a small library, an art museum, a post office, maybe another building or two, but not much more. The Pilgrim's Inn is just across the road from the library and located with water both in the front and back of the inn. It is an absolutely gorgeous property as you can see from all of the photos. Everyone is mesmerized with views of trees, water, birds and sky. Just gorgeous. However, that is not the only reason to stay here. The inn was built in 1793 and is the decor is to the period and very lovely. Our room in the main house was spacious, quiet, and the bed very, very comfortable. Lots of loving care is put into welcoming guests including having coffee and tea just outside of our second floor room door each morning. Very nice touch! And the cookie jar was always well stocked with amazing treats! We dined at the Whale's Rib and had a fabulous dinner! My husband ordered the sea stew upon recommendation from our server and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was probably one of the top two dinners of our entire 4 week trip! And breakfasts were wonderful! We were there two nights and drove around the island using the directions given to us by the inn to discover beautiful little coves, explore funny places like "Aunt Nellie's Jams and Jellies", and the beautiful little town of Stonington. But as much as we loved driving the small island, our favorite part of the day was sitting on the lawn with a local brew thoroughly enjoying the view and sunset.

Room Tip: We chose room 7. It was located on the second floor. It was spacious and we never heard noise from...

Our now annual visit to Pilgrim's Inn (and its Whale's Rib restaurant) just ended. P.I. continues to be the best place we've stayed in Maine. Its rooms and cottages (where we stay) are always clean, well supplied and comfortable. Our cottage is a perfect resting place with space for a living area, an adequate, well-supplied kitchen, and huge deck overlooking lovely gardens and the water. The deck is a great place to relax with a book and, for some, a drink. Tony & Tina are gracious hosts, accessible and engaging. Tony is the breakfast chef and his cooking is wonderful - each morning a new delicious surprise. The Inn's restaurant is simply superb. Delicious cookies and coffee/tea are available every afternoon in the game room. Tony and Tina have lots of reading material about local and nearby sight seeing adventures and lots of useful information that they easily share. The area around the Inn stretching from Blue Hill to Stonington is loaded with artists' studios, especially highly skilled potters. P.I. is a destination for those seeking the utmost in relaxation or a center from which exciting day trips are available.

Room Tip: The Ginny Cottages are our favorites.
