“Some hits & some misses”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2010

My husband and I had a lukewarm meal here. We were seated in the back room, which was cozy, quiet and lovely, and we started with some great mussels. We had a wonderful quinoa salad, but then our main course failed to please. I had duck risotto, which was a few pieces of duck on risotto that was dripping with cheese. It was so cheesy that it would have been more fitting as a dip served with toast points. Not a classic take on risotto. My husband's tuna was fine, but not flavorful, and the coconut shrimp were literally too sweet to eat. So, some high points and some low points. The service was very good.

“Maybe it was the way we ordered?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2010

Short wait at the bar with a perfect Beefeater martini. We ordered (as advised) the Lobster cakes, The Plank (an assortment of nuts, Vermont Chedder, fig chutney and humas?), and that evenings special, fresh Blue fish with a cilantro pesto. Yeah, I know, not a wise move to order blue fish with an unknown chef.
So here you go. The Plank: The Pate was grey and tasted grey. Then there was this sweet crusty pastry? The humas was just tasteless and out of place on a pate board. Nice nuts, chutney was good and the Cabbot chedder is a sure winner and while the chutney works well with the pate, and the nuts are a great texture feature, the cheese, humas, carrots, celary and sweet pastry were out of place. Even if the pate was fresh this combo did not work.
The lobster cakes were lobster, bread crumbs, red pepper and bread crumbs. These were just fine, but really only OK.( Sorry, I grew up in Annapolis, MD.)Blue fish is hard to prepare.I have caught it, prepared it and know this fish. If must be absolutely fresh, and demands either a moist, savory butter wine sauce, smoke or the challenge of a mustard/honey coating. This was a dry, over cooked piece of fish, with tasteless green stuff on top sitting on a white plate. Not yummy.
I have been to places like this a million times. Every now and then you hit a gem. This night we hit rock.

“The best mussels I've ever eaten!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2009

Our innkeepers in Boothbay Harbor recommended we try this restaurant on our way to Pemaquid Lighthouse, and I'm so glad we did. The mussels melted in our mouths and the crusty bread and garlicky sauce were scrumptious. We also ordered their potato pancakes and clam chowder--excellent as well. Just the appetizers made for a delicious lunch. A fine Bloody Mary as well. Our server was very friendly and attentive. You can see why they're so busy; the food speaks for itself.

One of the nicer restaurants in this coastal area. Well worth the visit. Very reasonably priced wines

“Good Food, Good Service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2009

Stopped in for lunch, service was friendly, quick in getting the food out and overall tasty. Had the Maine crab melt, generous amount of crab, pefect crisp buttered bread, topped with cheese, tomato and bacon how can you go wrong here. Side of waldorff salad was perfect and both were seasoned well. Only downer was the clam chowder, I have to check it out no matter where I eat. It was over powered by the smoked bacon, too many potatoes, a bit thin, lack of clams and seasoning was off as well, too bad. That shouldn't scare you away though everything else was perfect!
