“HIDDEN GEM; DON'T MISS IT; REALLY A SPECIAL PLACE”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2010

This is not really off the beaten path. It is just a town that most people skip on their way to another place. Damariscotta, Maine is one of the most beautiful towns on the coast and it does not even feel like you are on the coast. Most people just buzz by on Highway 101 or whatever it is on the coast. Stop in this place and if you stay in the area, make sure you visit this place. This is a very cool restaurant with plenty of parking out back; you need not park on the street. We got the table in the "Oyster Bar" the only table in there; we would wait for that table again because it is so cozy and cool. And, the food is very good. I had their seafood pot pie and it was loaded; my wife had crab cakes; too many to eat and wonderful flavor. Don't miss this place; it is special.

“Delicious!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2010

We recently ate at King Eider's twice (lunch and dinner) on our trip to Maine. Both meals were great although dinner definitely had the edge. My husband ordered a corned beef sandwich while I had a burger for lunch. Burger has a chargrilled taste which may be a bit too much for some as it was for me but otherwise it was delicious. Fries are homemade and yummy. We started off both meals with the pub pretzels with brie cheese topped with bleu cheese as an appetizer. Can you say YUMMY?! I'm going to recreate that at our next party for sure. Dinner, by far, was the most delicious meal on our trip (one can get tired of lobster easily). My husband enjoyed the seafood pot pie while I had the steak and ale pot pie which was perfect on a chilly October night. Service staff was wonderful both visits and we'll definitely return to King Eider's! I'm hunting down recipes for the steak and ale pie and will try to recreate it to the best of my abilities as it was delicious.

“most excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2010

We stopped here for a quick lunch on our Maine tour. We stayed for a long and lovey lunch. The food was well cooked and excellent. They do not serve the huge American sized plates but reserve the calories for killer desserts. The staff were wonderfully friendly and helpful.

“Uncomfortable Atmosphere”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2010

My daughter and decided to go into King Eider's for lunch. It wasn't busy at all and we were seated right away. Our lunch was ruined by listening to the server talk to the bartender and other co-workers about us when we were seated no more than 5 feet from where they were all standing. At the end of the meal we were rushed out, never asked if we cared for any dessert even though there was hardly anyone else in the place. Very rude and they should be embarassed.

“Friendly Pub, great value.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2010

You will never leave this pub hungry. We eat here several times a week. Portions are very generous and if you want a smaller portioned entree, ask, they usually can accomodate. This is my favorite pub in the midcoast region, you have to travel to Portland for an equal. For burger lovers, get the Eiderburger, always fresh and many toppings are available. I think the Cioppino is award winning along with the Steak and ale pie. Be sure and check the blackboard for daily specials, always creative. OYSTERS, if you crave oysters there are none better than at King Eiders. The downstairs pub is where many locals gather and discuss the Red Sox nation. There is also an upstairs dining area. This is a tourist friendly pub, both the management and regular patrons enjoy hearing about where you are from, if you are in public safety bring your patch for the collection. Beers always on tap are local Pemaquid, Smithwicks and Guinness along with a few others that "rotate". Monday night is trivia night during the winter, always a fun time with the winning team getting a free ride for dinner. If you are in Damariscotta and want a nice ice cold beer along with some great food look for the Duck just next to Renys on the corner of Elm Street.
