“Don't Order Prime Rib In A Seafood Restaurant”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2012

We come here often but decided to forgo the usual seafood plates for a shared 16 oz. Mate's Cut of prime rib, because we were in the mood and it was on the specials board. We began with tossed salad - iceberg lettuce, two slices of tomato, two slices of cucumber and a slice of red onion (Rate: ordinary, fresh, a good start). My husband had a bowl of thick rich Fish Chowder. (Rate: excellent) I had a bowl of French Onion soup from the Specials list (Rate A-: It was loaded with onions, very tasty, great cheese crust but the croutons were more than just a little stale -- they tasted old). Then the Prime Rib. It was the 16 oz. cut (as opposed to the 20 oz. Captain's cut). It was about 1/3 grissle and fat. A little fat is good, but this was excessive. The meat was chewy and tough. We asked for new knives thinking it was the fault of dull knives, but it wasn't. The waitress suggested it might have been more tender in au jus "juice" but none was offered, forthcoming or possibly even available. Our waitress did offer to take the meat back but we had almost finished our meal. With the prime rib came a Twice Baked Potato which was excellent, and a loaf of warm, fresh-baked white bread -- also, excellent. As we left we blamed ourselves for expecting superior beef in a locally lauded seafood restaurant.

“Good food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2012

Good food. You have to wait on weekend nights so go prepared. Not much on atmosphere. Rustic. Too much served for one person. So be prepared to share or take a doggy bag.

“Seafood that's A+”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2012

If you are looking for a fresh New England seafood dinner this is the place! The meals are cooked to perfection, and serving size is abundant. Be prepared for leftovers the next day. Since the food is so good, word gets around, and if you arrive after 6 be prepared to wait for a table. The atmosphere is very casual, people are friendly, and prices are a good value. We have been several times. I usually order the combination platter of Fried Shrimp and Scallops. Fried foods are served hot and not greasy. I have also had the Lobster Bisque, which was perfect on a cold winter night. The Fisherman's Platter is huge, and is a combination of fried fish and seafoods. The menu is extensive, and offers baked and broiled menu choices. I would highly recommend the baked stuffed lobster. Luckily for us, this restaurant is open year round, and I look forward to our next visit soon.

“Good food, average experience.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2012 via mobile

The lobster sandwich was excellent, clam cakes were pretty good but, the chowders were terrible. No seasoning at all. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here but, the town is nice.

“Good seafood halfway between the sea & the mountains”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2012

Live lobsters, fresh haddock, generous portions, full bar, pleasant booths and tables. Open-air dining in season. Cheerful waitstaff. On a four-day weekend, we came back for a second visit.
