My husband and I visited Castine in August, 2013. The Castine Inn is located about a block from the harbor.
We arrived around 5 PM for our one-night stay. There was a young girl at the front desk, and upon identifying myself, she gave me a set of keys, told me "you're in room 4, up the stairs on the second floor, the first room on your left." She pointed to the dining room and told us what hours breakfast was served. That's the extent of our "tour" of The Castine Inn.
Yes, I know the Inn is old. But it is in serious need of renovating. Our room did not contain a TV, and everything in the room looked like it had been purchased in a thrift shop or Goodwill. The bathroom was so small that you could not stand at the sink and have the door open.... And the room was not level...
I will say that the breakfast was delicious and the dining room large and inviting. The gardens were lovely and the huge wraparound porch was wonderful, just to sit, relax, and enjoy being outdoors.
With a little TLC and updating, The Castine Inn could be an amazing place.
