I remember the time my family and I started camping here in the early 80's. To me, it was the "Happiest Place on Earth" and would have chosen to go back to Maine rather than a trip to Disney World any day!!!! That's how amazing this place USED TO BE!
Now that I am in my 30's, recently married and had a baby 2 weeks ago, I am finally saying my peace. And that is "WHAT HAPPENED????"
When I was a kid, I met my best friends here at Point Sebago whom I am still best friends with to this day and I am greatful for that. In the 80's and early 90's, my friends and I spent many nights after our own nightly activities were over, peering through the window of the Patio Club where are parents were having the time of their lives. We would watch and laugh ourselves (until chippy police closed the curtains on us, lol) and could not wait to turn 21 so we could enjoy the Patio Club ourselves. WELL, fast-forward to many years later. We become adults and most of the same people are still coming up the same week as when we were kids. Picture this. We enter the Patio Club and find that there are plenty of seats and the entertainment is horrible. This was not what we hoped for. Back in the day, our parents had to fight for a table and get there early just to get a seat. they had amazing entertainment and now it's mostly family entertainment which leaves us adults with nothing to do (if you don't have kids) so we end up drinking by the campfire! I'm not sure if PS realizes how much money they are losing from us adults by not hanging in the bar like they used to back in the day. There are very few things for us to do at night and even the one or two nights they actually have something for us, it's terrible and no one goes. We actually go to Rick's Cafe or another bar outside of PS.
NOW, our parents used to be able to afford this place. This is no longer the case. We used to have more than 20 families go to PS with us over the years and now we are down to 3. And we already know those people are not going next year. The place I called MY DISNEY WORLD is now a joke that no one can afford. I even moved to California and used to come home every year for our Maine vacation. I have never missed a year but now that I'm married and my husband did not grow up at this resort so he has no attachment to it, I will soon end up not going myself which makes me very sad. Even this year we had to cut it short from 1 week to 3 days. I cried when I heard we couldn't afford it this year so we struggled with every dime we had to go for those 3 days so I wouldn't miss a year. And what happens this year???? You have to pay for Watersports and a lot more that used to be cheap or free. We rent the most expensive trailors on the beach and pay Premium Pricing and still get charged for activities. Even the free activities people used to run and get signed up for, now you're lucky if the game doesn't get cancelled.
Oh, and let's talk about Happy Hour! OK, entertainment is decent though we miss Chad Porter. We go to PS hoping for nice weather and thank you for the Tiki Bar, it's about time. BUT, why can't we have Happy Hour outside at the Tiki Bar if it's nice out? It would attract a lot more adults to Happy Hour if we knew we could sit outside and enjoy the entertainment and half priced drinks. I tried to walk outside to the roped in area with my Happy Hour drink and I was yelled at. WHAT???? I'm roped in and not driving. I want to enjoy the nice weather!!!!
Now that I have a newborn baby. I want him to enjoy the experience I had as a kid. And my husband and I want this place back to the way it used to be. Good times with family and friends, a more affordable vacation, and no $15 tiny buckets of rum at the Tiki Bar. That's insane!
The chippy police got a little better over the last few years. They were hassling us when we did nothing wrong but hung around the fire and talked quietly.
And this year I asked one of the employees how full the place was because it was pretty empty at the end of June and she said 20%. NOW, don't you think if you lowered the price of everything and added more adult entertainment, you would make more money???? It's common sense. We want to drink in the bar at night but just can't afford it. So we go to Walmart, get cheap beer and YOU LOSE!
Please make this a better place for us. We want the next generation to enjoy the times we had and not feel we wasted our money on yet another crappy Point Sebago vacation.
Oh, and we plan to rent from an owner next year which means Point Sebago, you won't see a dine from us!
