“It's like staying with family (who actually are glad to see you!)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2011

This was our second time staying with Candace and Alan and their cats Rocky and Charlotte. We were there during the blizzard at the end of December 2010. In the morning, Alan not only had the driveway plowed by 8 a.m., he had cleaned the snow off our vehicle! Thank you Alan, your thoughtfulness was so appreciated. We stayed in Hannah's room, again, which is so comfortable and quiet. No problems sleeping here! For all you cat lovers, Rocky is one of two cats living at Greystone and is the official greeter. He loves to race up the stairs ahead of you, and jump on the bed and play. For us, we love it, as we have cats of our own.

Breakfast at Greystone is always something to look foward too. This time, we were treated to the most amazing blueberry pancakes. Yum!

Candace and Alan are special people who take pride in their home and it shows. They are easy to talk to and you always feel relaxed with them, as if you have known them for years.

We have decided Greystone is the only place for us in Calais.

I have not found a better place to stay within 30 mile sof the Greystone. The owners are friendly, the rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable.

We stayed one night in this B&B - not to visit the area, but to take a break in a long drive to reach our final destination.

This is indeed a beautiful B&B. We loved our room, the bed was very comfortable, and we could see much effort had been made regarding the smallest details.

There is not much to do in this town - many stores and restaurants have closed down so it's a bit sad. We did, however, enjoy a good walk on a path by the water.

I read the other reviews and everyone seems to rave on and on about the Innkeepers. Our experience was different. Although polite enough, we really didn't feel any genuine hospitality from them. Like they didn't like us.

We also knew that there were cats in the house, which was fine with us. However, upon arrival, our room door was open and one cat jumped on the bed when we went in. Not good.

The door to our room had no lock! We couldn't lock our door on the way out nor could we lock ourselves in for the night. This bothered me a great deal.

The Greysone is a good indication of what Calais was like at the height of prosperity in the 1800's. It is a beautiful B&B, both inside and out. Candace and Alan are terrific hists with a great knowledge of the area. The dinner recommendation to the World Cafe was spot on - easily one of the best meals on our week long trip. The inn is on a perfectly lovely street just steps from the river walk and an easy stroll into town. This is a great stopping or ending place if you are travelling to or from Canada, and indeed, it's comfort, beauty, and proximity to one of Maine's best willdlife preserves, make it a destination in and of itself. We stayed in Hannah's room, large and airy, had a great breakfast, and were entertained by Rocky the cat's antics.. Do yourself a favor and stay here. It's one of the best B&b's among the many we have visited. And did I mention that it's a terrific value.

If you are traveling from Acadia National Park or any part of lower Maine to Nova Scotia, Halifax, Prince Edward Island, or Newfoundland, Greystone B & B is the best place to stay! The house is gracious, the bedrooms and baths are luxurious & not at all kitschy. It's quiet for sleeping. We got coffee before breakfast to help us wake up & dress. Breakfast was fine and served unobtrusively. Candace and Alan are gentle and helpful hosts. We would certainly stay again on our way over the border.

Greystone Bed and Breakfast is so fabulous that it prompted us to write our first travel review. Candice, the owner came out to greet us, helped us with our luggage, and showed us to our lovely room. The room was good sized with two very comfortable high back chairs and two closets. The ensuite bathroom was spotless and very attractively decorated. It is very obvious that Candice thoroughly enjoys welcoming guests into her home. She is a charming, friendly, and thoughtful hostess. She provides a nightlight in the bathroom, bottles of water and peppermint patties on the dresser, written television and internet access information, and whatever information you may need. My husband especially appreciated her letting us put our special margarine in her refrigerator so that he didn't have to haul our travel refrigerator up to our room. We enjoyed chatting with other guests in the extremely comfortable guest living room and eating our delicious hot breakfast in the exquisite dinning room. This is a great place to stay if you are on your way to Canada. The price is very reasonable and you don't have to pay the high Canadian taxes.
It is within easy walking distance of the center of town and the border crossing, with four churches within one block of it. We ate at the Town House Restaurant -- not fancy but good food, generous portions and reasonably priced. We are delighted we have found the Greystone Bed and Breakfast and we definitely plan on returning there.

This was our first time staying in a B&B but certainly won't be our last. Candice and Alan are warm, welcoming hosts and their cat Rocky added a extra humerous touch! The Inn is located on a quiet street in Calais and offers old world charm with 21st century amenities like satellite TV and free WiFi. We stayed in Hannah's room which had a fireplace, and an beautiful private bath. Breakfast was something worthy of a five star restaurant.

We are already planning our return visit!
