“Very clean and quiet.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2007

We stayed at the Best Western in Bucksport one night in mid-October. The room (a queen double) was well equipped with good quality, nearly new furniture. The bath was nicely separated from the room. There was no microwave or fridge. Everything was very clean and very quiet at night.
Breakfast was a bit weak: cereal, toast, pastry, fruit. It was set up in the small lobby and there was no seating; guests have to take trays back to their rooms or just stand around there.
There are several sit-down restaurants, some fast food and a large grocery store within walking distance or very short drive. Bucksport is less tourist-oriented than many towns along the Route 1 corridor and has a seemingly healthy small town Main Street with a variety of stores.
We felt our stay was quite reasonably priced in comparison to many other local choices and would certainly stay there again.

I have stayed here three times over the last three years. This small hotel is a great alternative for tourists in the midcoast area. The highlight of this hotel is the availability of river view rooms in the back; the view of the river, fort and new bridge is spectacular! Clean, nicely furnished rooms, great staff.

It's right in the center of the small downtown. Within a half-mile walk either way are great choices for food: Macleod's for seafood (reviewed in Gourmet and Bon Appetit magazines), Ming's for Chinese, Bucksport House of Pizza. Across the bridge on Verona Island (half-mile walk) are the Seabreeze Restaurant where the locals go (great breakfasts, open at 5 a.m. for early travelers), Kravings bakery and restaurant with lots of choices, and Wo's BBQ. I can recommend all of them! Also within a half-hour walk either way are a great bookstore, BookStacks, with wi-fi; a specialty beer and wine store, The Vineyard; Rosen's for clothing, gift shops, a 24-hour gas station and convenience store, a 24-hour tourist information stand, a supermarket, and a laundromat. The hotel is about in the middle of a mile-long riverfront walking path. This is a great property for travelers who want a quiet alternative for lodging with plenty of great dining options in the middle of a small town an hour from Acadia National Park.

The only negative is that because it is a small two-star hotel in a small town, I have a hard time justifying paying $100+ in high season.

  • Liked — the river view, the clean and comfortable room, the downtown location convenient to restaurants and shops
  • Disliked — expensive in high season

We spent 4 nights here as a base for touring the area.
The 4-story motel in the center of Bucksport is very clean, with helpful staff/owner. Right on the water across from Ft. Knox and the new bridge. Beautiful setting. No frig or micro so we shopped the local grocery store each day. Overall a wonderful experience, visiting Bar Harbor and Castine.

After looking online for hotels in Bar Harbor, we expanded our range a bit and found this hotel on the Penobscot River, under an hour west of Acadia. The view from the hotel was incredible! The hotel is right on the river, with Fort Knox and the new Penobscot Narrows bridge right behind it.. The room was comfortable and very clean, and included free high speed internet. The staff were incredibly friendly. Highly recommended for anyone traveling along the Maine coast.

Stayed here with my kids and my mom during the Bucksport Bay Festival. The motor inn is right in the middle of town with easy access and plenty of parking. You enter on the 3rd floor - ask for a room on the river side and you'll get an awesome view of the river, historic Fort Knox across the river and the brand new (almost finished) bridge!! The windows actually opened! The air conditioning was great, we were on the fourth (top) floor right in the middle and had a perfect view of the fireworks being set off at Fort Knox. Bucksport also has a gorgeous walkway along the river that winds right behind the hotel... there are also great restaurants within easy walking distance and many interesting shops and a vintage (revitalized) movie theater. Try McCloud's across the street for dinner - it was excellent and the staff very friendly! The motel does offer a small breakfast in the lobby - coffee, juice and prepackaged baked goods - included in the room rate. The elevator is tiny but efficient. Rooms aren't fancy but are certainly clean and bright! We enjoyed our stay in Bucksport!

A cute little hotel with beautiful views of the water -- served us just fine on a recent business trip. A little overpriced for the value (no breakfast, etc.), but the staff was friendly, the rooms were clean, the internet access was available, and the location was just great. I'd stay there again and recommend it to others. Supermarket is just down the road.
