We have mixed feelings about our three night stay. Our stay wasn't a disaster and on the whole enjoyable so let me explain why I gave it a POOR rating. The staff was friendly & helpful in giving directions to local places. For a hotel that's two years old, it doesn't have a pool or Jacuzzi but we knew that when we booked it. We wanted it mainly for the downtown location making it easy to walk to everything. A Jacuzzi would have been theraputic after our long drive from Connecticut. Our spacious room on the second floor with two queen-size beds and its bathroom were bigger than in other hotels, but when you're paying over $200 a night, they should have provided a fridge (and maybe a microwave with it) as we find in less expensive places so we paid an extra $10 each night for one. I learned this in advance after not noticing it on the amenities list. If we didn't order one, I was told we could put our snacks & drinks in the staff's fridge but it would be inconvenient to constantly go downstairs to bother them to get stuff. And you would expect free HBO as we get in cheaper places but not here. There were plenty of cable channels for the large flat screen TV so that's a minor quibble.
Overall I would have preferred a smaller room with less empty floor space and more features for the price. Who needs an oversized room if you're out most of the time? That's poor designing to me and the architect could have added another room or two on each floor or at least made space on the first floor for a Jacuzzi taking up less space than an indoor pool. Also there are no ice machines anywhere so we had to go downstairs for a bucket from the restaurant.
We took the breakfast plan and the food was very good with ample proportions. The second morning our different waitress was polite but never came back to offer more coffee as I had to flag down another serving person to get a refill. The restaurant wasn't crowded so I don't think she was too busy to neglect us as the other waitresses on the other days came back enough times offering refills. She also brought me the wrong muffin and instead of letting us keep it after I cut it in half to learn it wasn't what I ordered, she quickly whisked it away and brought us the correct one. In other restaurants they let you keep it while bringing you the right one since it was their mistake. I assume the $4 muffin was trashed so why waste good food? Maybe I'm being picky but good service is important anywhere and I am a good tipper.
Speaking of coffee, some reviewers remarked about free coffee & fresh fruit in the lobby during the morning. However they were removed when we went there after 9:00AM which is too early. I guess they were afraid of guests hoarding their precious coffee & fruit. Most places that charge less have free coffee all day (and sometimes cookies in the afternoon) so it would have been nice to have a cup when we returned later in the day or to take one for the road when we checked out or went shopping & sightseeing. We could have used our room's maker which provides only one serving per guest but that's not enough for coffee lovers like us. OK we could have asked for more bags for our room but that's not my point.
Without a Jacuzzi, I missed having a pool for an after dinner swim which would have been nice for me and for children who will sorely miss using one so I wouldn't recommend this place to young families staying more than one night because of its absence of 'kids activities.' Otherwise the inn was good, clean, and convenient, which is its main selling point, but overpriced for what was lacking and that's the only reason for my POOR rating which really had nothing to do with what was available. Next summer we'll return to our previous trip's nearby inn that has a Jacuzzi, free breakfast, free coffee all day, a room fridge, and is less expensive. It's conveniently located only a few minutes away from downtown where there is plenty of free parking so it's really not worth paying extra here unless you don't have transportation.
Make sure you carefully read the amenities list and ask questions before you make a reservation so y...
