“Have you notised, you have foreigners too?”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2014

First disappointment was: "NO cameras"!
Then when I tried to find out what was in the showcases, I fo that english statement was in the bottom.. I am 183cm tall (about 5'2") and it was nearly impossible to read something about my knee high. Should I be on all fours??
Also some occasions it was difficult to find out for which display, was the statement placed.

“Witness How Cochin was Born!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2014

People who love their history can not miss this place. It's more of a museum than a palace as such, but the museum is amazing. It's well preserved, it's got rare coins and stamps dating back to the 16th century. There are murals on the walls which lie intact depicting scenes from the Ramayana. There are also paintings and pictures of the different Maharajas of Cochin and their legacies. You can get a very descriptive idea of a Royal yet traditional lifestyle of the Cochin Royal family through the ages.

Do not go there expecting to see a lot of Dutch influences. In fact, there aren't any!! Do not go there expecting to see a lot of royal glamour of yore. Nope, not there either. Go there to get a taste of Kerala and how Cochin was founded and grew into a worldclass port city. The truth lies behind these walls!!

PS: It's rather unfortunate that the only memories you'd be taking back are those in your mind. So, take as much time as you want, read as many tidbits as you want before you leave for there's a prohibition on photography!!

“Not a palace but a museum”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2014

Palace is a misnomer for this place. It is a museum with some good murals, history of cochin and few artifacts of the kings. If you go here with the thoughts of witnessing gradeur and luxury of a palace you would be thoroughly disappointed

“Interesting”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2014

Reasonable static displays with enough English to help understand the history. Interesting building and rooms. Minimal entry fee and if in the area, one of its main attractions. Can do in under 1 hour, no photography the only negative as also no decent gift shop photos can be purchased.
