“Excellent hotel staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 6, 2012

Just back from a week at the Secrets Maroma Beach & would echo the comments made by previous correspondents. I wouldn't say the hotel is fault free [lack of air-conditioning in parts of the main bar area & the restaurant booking system] but nothing that would stop me going back! The rooms are large, clean & in good order. The food was abundant & excellent. They will try to sell you wines off a separate wine list [at a cost] but the house wines are very good. The hotels main asset is its staff - all were extremely professional & clearly had been well trained. I would suggest you search out Jaime [Jimmy] at the steakhouse by the pool [at lunchtimes] - he's an absolute star & made our holiday.

Room Tip: All the rooms are essentially the same design. We had a view over the garden & would probably ha...

My husband and I just got back from our amazing honeymoon at Secrets Maroma Beach! We came home expecting everyone to be happy and greet us enthusiastically and give us mojitos...probably because what was what we got for 10 straight days. Unfortunately, Philadelphia airport personnel didn't quite see it the way that we did..
So the theme of this review is service, luxury and quality! These three qualities really describe Secrets perfectly because it is what sets the resort apart from others. The staff go above and beyond in every way possible, they are always smiling and asking you what they can do to make your stay better...and then they actually do it! Carlos was our personal concierge for Preferred Club building 16 and he was on top of it! Always available to help in any way and take care of any issues from booking our romantic beach dinner to getting us our boarding passes in advance so we didn't have to wait in line. To understand the meaning of 'above and beyond', make sure to be at the pool at 1pm on saturday.
The Preferred Club, it's worth it just to get the buildings closer to the beach and the extra services that comes with it like private check in and the lounge. We stayed in 1649 which was on the top floor and had the most amazing view. Our room was amazing but we didn't use the soaking tub because the water wasn't warm. We did, however, use our jacuzzi every day...bring bubble bath and candles. Also, the birds are quite loud so bring a sound machine if you want to sleep past 5am! As far as ocean front verses ocean view, I say go with ocean view. In my opinion, the ocean front balconies are visible from the beach and don't have much privacy. The swim up rooms are a waste of money since the pools don't connect to the main pool and again no privacy or view of the ocean.
Ok so now the best part...it's all about the FOOD!. The food is just so good! We didn't do the hibachi at Himitsu but we did love the sushi there...although they are obsessed with cream cheese! Just ask them and they will make you whatever kind of sushi you want. The restaurants were.just as good as any meal you'd get in NYC. Even the 24 hour room service was amazing. We also were surprised at how good the soups were! From casual to fancy to buffet, the food exceeded our expectations! The drinks were amazing and the beach service was on point. Don't forget your daily trip to CoCo cafe for a white chocolate latte!
One of the highlights of the trip was renting the double decker palapa for the day. We loved it! Very relaxing and amazing service. I also thought the romantic beach dinner was one of the most romantic things I'd ever done and so worth it! The beach is so unbelievably beautiful it is breathtaking. Better than any beach I've ever been to. The pools are nice, there are two of them, one with a swim up bar and the other is an infinity pool. They are all in the same area but you can go to the fun pool and grab a drink at the swim up bar or relax at the more quiet pool. There are beds to relax in all over the property where you can take a nap or read a book. There are only 2 jacuzzis that are always filled with people which is the only thing I think that they could improve on at the resort.
Make sure to check out the spa, such a relaxing atmosphere and the services were so good. Definitely a luxury you need to have in your life:)
We did the Mayan adventure excursion which was really fun and exciting. The underground cave is one of the coolest things I've ever seen. Definitely make sure to snorkel in a cave! We also took advantage of the professional photography, you get it for free with one free picture. We ended up getting a book since we loved our photos. Mario did an amazing job. Check out was very easy thanks to Jean who made sure to help us out with a movie we accidentally ordered. Overall, the hotel is amazing and we would love to keep it a secret just for ourselves but we will share it's amazingness with the world:) GO...GO NOW!

Room Tip: top floor, ocean view, junior suite, preferred club - 1649 was a corner room and had the most amazin...

We stayed at Secrets Maroma during the middle of September this year, and the weather was perfect. This was our first time to Maroma, and it was pure luxury. We stayed at Secrets Silversands a couple years ago, and knew we wanted to go to another Secrets resort. Maroma definitely lives up to being the best resort within the Secrets family. Great food, well thought out pool and bars, incredible white sand beach, beautiful turquoise ocean and attention to detail kept us happy during our stay. Even the entertainment shows at night were excellent! We upgraded to the swim out which was well worth it. You don't have a "pure" ocean view unless you are right on the beach (Ocean Front), so we decided to do the swim out in building 25 rather than have an ok view. Props to all the incredible staff for all their hard work. They really make you feel like you are in paradise. We would like to give a shout out to Carlitos, JC, Alberto, Lorena and Diana of the entertainment staff. It was funny, because we knew JC from our stay at Silversands! Our concierge, Rogelio, was always more than friendly. Freddy at the breakfast buffet was quite outgoing. Also, Consuelo at the lobby bar as well as Filberto & Jesus at the pool bar always made and delivered the perfect drinks. Our favorite restaurants were Bordeaux and El Patio, although all of them were pretty good. We hope to go back soon!

We just returned from spending 10 fantastic nights at Secrets Maroma Beach. There is not one bad thing I could say about this resort. We were truly spoiled by the amazing staff that was there to pamper you all hours of the day and night. The beach is so beautiful, this is were we spent most of our days. There was always a staff member waiting to find you beach chairs and towels with a smile on their faces we never had a hard time finding a spot to lounge. They do a great job of keeping the seaweed off the beach as well. The pool was awesome too where we enjoyed the pool volleyball games. The entertainment staff is what really made our trip memorable for us. Big thanks to Manuel "Mani", Alberto "Black Diamond", and Diana "Muppet" for getting to know us and putting a smile on our faces everyday. We had so much fun with you guys! Also we would like to mention Fabian (poolside assistant) who always went out of his way to say hola and make sure we were taken care of.

We choose a swim out room and loved it! Besides a few small lizards crawling around there were no bugs that we noticed. It was so fun to walk out a few steps and take a swim whenever we pleased. The drop box for room service was very convenient.

The FOOD! The food was top notch at every restaurant. Our favorites were the French and the Himitsu. The service staff was always friendly and knowledgeable. We also enjoyed the beach side and pool side grills during mid day for lunch. Every Saturday the chefs make a big production at the pool with a variety of delicious dishes to choose from. They even get in a canoe and cater to those in the pool! It was very neat!

We would definitely recommend this resort to everyone. This vacation is going to be hard to beat. We are hoping to make it an annual vaca! Thank you SMB!

The resort was clean and the food was very good. The reason we went was for a wedding. The wedding coordinator was terrible. They left the cabanas along the isle where the bride was walking in from. So we had old French balls in the pictures. I know it wouldn't be as private but they did not follow through with what they said they would do. Reception was planned for outside. It started to rain so we had to move everything inside. It took them an hour and a half to reset 5 tables. While we all waited in the lobby starving, they would not get us any appetizers from any of the restaurants. When we checked how much longer it would be until they would be ready, we walked in on the staff standing in the reception room watching music videos. Luckily are group was great so we had a lot of fun regardless. But if you are the type that would let things ruin your time this place can do that. You not able to sit at the restaurant with more than a group of four. So if your the fifth person have fun eating a lone. For a five star adult resort they had way too many rules. Also, I have been to many other resorts in and around Playa and I can honestly say it is over priced. I stayed in four star and five star resorts at half the price and had more options for food, better entertainment, and was not surround by seniors that glared every time you made a peep. If your going to this resort make sure you going with a group of people who will make the most out of it. If it wasn't for the group we went with I would have been very disappointed.

We have been to other area resorts but this was our first visit to Secrets Maroma Beach. We LOVED every minute of this vacation and have every intention to stay here again for all trips in the future! The rooms were clean and beautiful. Kept up nicely all day. Felt very safe. The food and beverages were out of this world! We had no complaints about ANY of the restaurants, and the Lobby Bar was a lot of fun each night. Look no further for a better, more hard working staff. Must meet Guillermo--the BEST bar tender on the planet! So polite, smart and friendly! Made excellent drinks and had fun with our group! Our favorite restaurant was El Patio. Our favorite server was there--Gilberto. What a fun, professional and knowlegeable guy. Made the BEST food recommendations! We loved every minute at this beautiful resort. The entertainment was also very good. Appreciated Manny and the others for adding in more fun. Every aspect surpassed our expectations. We can't wait to come back next year.

This is our third trip to Secrets, our first to Secrets Maroma. The resort exceeded our expectations, which were already high from our previous experiences. Food was excellent. Pools were quiet, clean, and comfortable. The beach was pristine. Room and amenties were first rate. What distinguished this resort from prior vacations, because we had come to expect all of this, was the extremely attentive and caring staff. From our personal concierge Rogelio to the site manager Rafael, Secrets rolled out the red carpet to make sure that every need and want was taken care. They mean it when they say "welcome home."
