I am a long time fan of Beth's, but this summer has been a huge disappointment and therefore warrants an "Average" rating. I regularly post on TA, so if this changes, I will definitely upgrade my opinion. First I'm going to start by saying, we are regulars here in the summer and have always raved about Beth's and sent many people we know there. We have always enjoyed both breakfast and lunch these past 3 summers.
HOWEVER, since Beth's moved, something has changed. Every morning we arrive, it has been chaos. I blame this partly on the large amounts of people (yay Beth's!), but also because there is NO direction for people that have not been there before (a lot of tourists in the summer). I have witnessed parties of 6 sit down and wait like there is going to be a waitress arriving because they have no idea how Beth's is run. Also, because the only menus are sitting on the counter, I have witnessed people taking so much time at the counter trying to decide what they want, while the line mounts behind them. It just makes no sense, a sign directing people what to do would be so helpful and put a stand with menus out BEFORE the counter, so people can decide what they want in line.
Now onto, the service. The young girls there are always friendly and helpful, but it seems they lack the direction of experienced counter staff, always seems disorganized. Having said that, the food is still delicious, but I have experienced SEVERAL mixed up orders, missing food etc this summer. My friend's oatmeal was a clump of dryness and another friend's bagel had the tiniest bit of cream cheese on it (yes, we can all cut back on cream cheese, but this was unacceptable). Another friend ordered an egg sandwich and the entire thing came un-assembled, apparently it was assemble your own egg sandwich day at Beth's. I hate to be snarky, because I really LOVE this place, but they either need to really work our their growing pains and they need to help their customer's know what to do. Nobody likes to feel like they have no idea what to do when walking into a place, it should be pretty simple and signage could really help. I am a huge champion of this place and want it to succeed. Also, they chose to locate the prepare your coffee station so that you can't get to it when there is a line, without disrupting the line and squeezing through people, which isn't fun when you have a full mug of coffee ready to burn you!
I would still encourage people to go here, but to understand the following if the place is busy (which it is in the summer). 1. Get in line and have someone else in your party grab a table (nothing worse than when your food comes out and you have no place to sit, which I see happen all the time). 2. Go up front and grab a menu off the counter so you know what you want and don't bog the line down trying to decide. 3. Be patient, the food is usually worth it!
I really want to upgrade my rating, come on Beth's, just a few tweaks would be helpful!
