Description: Schooners, formerly Muddy Rudder, is a family owned business purchased by the Kessock family in mid-2011. Since that time its reputation has steadily grown as the best seafood restaurant in the area.In February 2012, the name was changed to Schooners Seafood & Steakhouse. In addition to our Maine Seafood, we now offer a unique selection of steak options.Every effort is made to purchase only fresh products whenever possible. For example, ALL of our meat entrees are fresh, never frozen, aged in our cooler, and hand-cut on site. Even our hamburgers and chicken entrees are fresh as well. Our patrons are also able to enjoy the finest view in the city; our large windows and outside deck overlook the beautiful Penibscot River just a few yards away.Try us. You’ll taste the difference.

“Don't order Fried Clams here...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

Beautiful location, nice outdoor seating... I had the most unappetizing, unflavorful, wilted batter and rubbery/chewy fried clams ever ordered in New England. I was disappointed, but the rest of the party seemed to like their food. It was a birthday celebration and I did not want to ruin it by complaining. One of the meals was brought after 4 of the 5 of us had eaten half of our plates. Most of the reviews great on this sight, so who knows what happened to my clams?

“First Restaurant in Maine that had a exceptional Vegetarian selection”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2013 via mobile

So on our last night of our holiday, 8 days total we were sent to this restaurant by our hotel and found the best selection of Vegetarian dishes in the entire state. I myself had steak, which was delightful, and my friend who had been deprived these last eight days was in heaven with the Vegetarian dishes and had 2 full meals in one setting as she had gone without for so many days. Servers were excellent and the view was beautiful.

“Fantastic Restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2013

I cannot say enough good things about Schooners. The food was excellent, and quite a bargain as well. Not being from Maine, it is still astonishing to get a whole lobster for under $25, but they had a special for 2 for $27. The chowder was great as well as was the wine selection. As my wife and I visited in late August for the Folk Festival, it was very nice to sit outside overlooking the river and enjoy a nice glass of wine. Definitely the place to go when you are in the Bangor area.
