We celebrated an anniversary at Spruce Point Inn's "88" restaurant...it is the more formal dining room (as opposed to Bogie's, which is a casual, sports-bar type restaurant). Upon arrival, we were offered a complimentary glass of champagne (they did not know at that point this was anniversary)...everyone is offered the champagne. We had a cocktail and they brought an amuse bouche of gazpacho that was excellent. My husband ordered their Damariscotta oysters (from the Glen Cove bed, our waitress said). He has eaten oysters all over the world and pronounced these the best he'd ever had. They were huge and very meaty. I had the Signature salad, which was almost too pretty to eat with its red and yellow nasturtiums and creamy goat cheese atop the micro greens. We both ordered the Lobster, which was served with the tail split and the claws removed and partly cracked. For the knuckles, you're on your own. This was served with corn off the cob, fingerling potatoes, and the obligatory drawn butter. Our lobsters were probably 2-pounders, or close to it, and they were excellent. For desert we succumbed to the hot fudge brownie sundae.
A really memorable dinner in a beautiful setting. Last but not least, the service was absolutely perfect.
