Description: Food & Wine Magazine came up with the idea of “Collaboration Nation” to describe chefs working with customers, vendors and each other to bring the best flavors and experiences to those who love food. The principles of Chefs Stiles and Weinerth are sourcing, preperation, and enhancement. Here at Spruce Point Inn in Boothbay Harbor, Chefs Stiles and Weinerth have operated on these principles from the beginning, sourcing the locally fished, farmed and harvested ingredients from the best seasonal farms and producers in Maine. They then prepare the menu with cooking techniques that preserve the foods integrity and nutrition. The final product is enhanced by optimizing nutritional value via product combination and menu diversity.Midcoast Maine is the beneficiary of a cornucopia of retired/relocated professionals who have left banking or IT to go back to the land and Chef Stiles – who grew up on a farm in local Lincolnville, just up the road -- has built relationships with local farms and other food purveyors, sourcing ingredients like the fresh Aroostook beets and lavender-honey chevre from Tourmaline Hill Farm, greens from the hothouse built by a drummer from the band Phish and cheese from the State of Maine Cheese Company, a business created by a Manhattan banker in Rockland. It's an exciting time to be in the restaurant business and especially exciting to be part of what’s happening here, says Chef Stiles.

“Terrible service, average food at Bogies”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2012 via mobile

We recently stayed at the SPI - while we go annually and adore the location and amenities of the resort, the dining at Bogies Hideaway is no where near on par with what one expects. We had 6:30 reservations for a party of 7; we were seated promptly. However, the experience quickly went downhill. Drinks were ordered and delivered some 20+ minutes later, and our dinner salads were served with our entrees almost an hour after ordering. A second round of drinks that were ordered were never delivered; after 45 minutes I had to ask for the fruit cup for our toddler finally be delivered. I should note that this cannot be blamed on being overly busy; there were only 25 other people seated. Perhaps most frustrating is that because we were a party of 7, a gratuity of 20% was automatically added to the bill; I would not even have left 10% for such poor service.
The food had mixed results; the chowder, as always was divine; the lobster Mac-n-cheese was nothing special. We miss the delicious scallop and bacon roll that was removed from the menu!
Over the years we have come to expect haphazard service from seasonal waitstaff; however, this was terrible to the point that we will eat in town in the future.

“very pricey poor service”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2012

we were staying at the spruce point inn resort and we decided to have dinner at bogies. we were waiting for about 45 minutes before we got sited despite that there were a lot of empty tables. the excuse was that there was only 1 kitchen for both restaurants (main and bogies). after we ordered we still waited for over 30 minutes for the food to be made. food was a bit pricey for the area. service was also horrible
it was the first and last time i would ever go there again.

“Excellent”

Everything about these two resturants was great - location, view, food selection and service. Make reservations, they are often full!

“Good breakfast buffet.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2012

Ate the breakfast buffer at Bogies. Very good and could order eggs, omelettes and waffles. Fresh baked goods and not too pricey for a hotel.

“Just Right”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2012

Had a Thursday night supper at the Spruce Point Inn's main restaurant. Thoroughly enjoyed their signature salads, the swordfish special, and the sirloin. Ended with homemade ice cream and Maine strawberries. Wait staff attended to us with just the right timing. Restaurant atmosphere is clean, comfortable, and fits right with the surroundings. It is an annual stop for us while in Maine and, once again, it did not disappoint.
