“Relaxing, Friendly, Beautiful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2013

Sur la Mer is a comfortable inn atop a promontory over the bay, with a terrace great for watching the boats come and go, birds soar or just meditating. It has all the traveler needs, but not the frufru bunnies and fake decor of many pretentious B&Bs. Gene and Shane are friendly hosts who provide a substantial breakfast and/or leave you alone if that's what you want. It's clean and comfortable, basics plus a little more, but not 5-star amenities like velvet towels or high-end slippers. A big plus is that it is an easy walk to town, yet away from town. Go for it!

Room Tip: Ask for ocean front

We stayed in the Boat House rental. It was very homey and clean, Had all necesary needs for small kitchen if you need to cook, 5 minute walk to town, wharf and restaurants. Has a deck on roof with chairs and gas grill.. great view out into harbor. A nice place if you want privacy.

I would not recommend this place to anyone. When I first stepped out of the car the place looked abandoned, that is how poorly maintained it is. We walked around to the front of the property and it looked like the place has sat untouched for a year and someone had tried to mow a year's worth of lawn two day's before our stay. Even the porch was growing grass. The doors were all locked and there was nobody around. We went into the town to ask if anyone knew what was going on and they all thought that place was closed. We ended up staying somewhere else in the end. Don't waste your time or money on this place.

We enjoyed this eclectic inn. The collection of items made visiting the property interesting as well as the great view of the harbor It was pleasant waking to the sound of the harbor coming to life in the morning as we enjoyed our host's hospitality. A close walk to town was enjoyed even though we got caught in a unexpected downpour.
The view from their deep water dock was enjoyable as well as the stone veranda around the seaward side of the building

Room Tip: We loved the room on the first floor had it's own private entrance as well as access through the...

Thanks so much for the kind words. We're always happy to hear that great memories are made with us, even in a rainstorm. We're fortunate to have such incredible views to enjoy every day during season, and enjoy sharing those views with guests. We've got great things planned for 2013, and hope to see you again soon.

It was extremely overpriced and imagine one of your worst lodging experiences. The staff was unfriendly, inattentive and all other attributes that would be the antithesis of delightful inn-keepers. The room was dirty, filled with cobwebs and moldy. We were in the room that allowed dogs. The floor was too grimy to lie on. The small pile of ragged towels in the bathroom were not in danger of falling over in that they were secured by cobwebs on two corners. When I asked that the room be "freshened" I was advised that they would get to it the next day. The cobwebs and our slender spider, were still in place after the owner said it was clean. The porch was overgrown with weeds, the furniture dilapidated and it was strewn with last year's leaves and junk tossed aside. The beautiful lawn in the photo on the website was replete with a covering of goose droppings, so it was unusable. When we arrived there was one couple there who, when I enquired how they got there, had the same response as ours, "It was the only place with a vacancy." We were advised that the cleaning lady had been dismissed. It was high season and only a few rooms were rented during our stay with every other inn we walked by having their No Vacancy sign posted. There was a reason why...

My wife and I just finished staying at the Sur La Mer Inn. We've been going there for about 10 years. We absolutely love it! We're partial to The Penthouse room on the third floor as it has a private deck overlooking the harbor. You have a 180 degree unobstructed view of the harbor, which all guests can also enjoy from the large terrace at ground level.

Regarding breakfast - We enjoy fresh muffins on our private deck in the morning, be we couldn't help but hear the positive comments the other guests made about the full breakfast.

Both Gene and Shane have always been wonderful hosts.

We like our privacy and they give you space if that's what you like.

Dave & Lisa - we should give you your own set of keys!! It's always great to see you coming back to spend time with us...although we never see you! The Penthouse is indeed a great place to capture some quiet time and incredible bird's eye views of the harbor. See you in summer!

Over-priced for what is offered. Antiques and charm are not excuses for old, worn, and out dated. Moldy. Service at minimum. Lack of friendliness and defensive, grumpy and attitudes. The restaurant has food from Sam's Club at gourmet prices. Skip it.
