Description: The Thistle Inn is the perfect mix of fine cuisine and casual fare. We use only the freshest ingredients and everything is home made, including salad dressings, fresh baked breads and desserts. The best way to describe our food is an eclectic mix of American cuisine with a hint of international flavors. We let the availability of local produce and seafood influence the menu.

“Best Happy Hour in Town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2009

The Thistle Inn is one of the best restaurants in town. It is a beautiful old building and the dining room and bar have a very cozy, pub-like, upscale atmosphere. The best thing about the Thistle, however, is their daily happy hour. From 5-6 every evening, the pub menu and ALL the drinks are half off! Great food from oysters to tuna tartar to burgers and pizza are all half off and delicious. The bartenders are great and friendly and you're sure to have a great time and become a regular.

“Fabulous!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2009

Our party of six had dinner on their balcony with was very lovely. The waiter was perfect, attentive but unobtrusive. We ordered a wide variety of food and everyone was very pleased with their dishes. Most popular at our table; the lazy lobster, also the chicken was deemed terrific, my tuna was really good. The salads were great. Our youngest member finished up with a peanut butter mousse cake; even that was was very good! I thought that the restaurant gave very good value. Next time; it's either the lazy lobster or the paella for me!

“Never again!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2008

We went to the Thistle Inn over Labor day weekend. I had called for reservations weeks in advance and had asked for 7:30 and was told only 8. So we took 8.
We got there and were seated on the deck and there were 3 other parties that were getting there checks. Not sure why we were not able to get in earlier.
Proceeded to order. When we finally got our food it was luke warm, we received no bread, and the waitress came back when we were just about finished to see how everything was. She then never came back. We had to take our bill to the bartender inside. They are lucky we were honest, as we could have easily left the restaurant without paying. Needless to say, this was the first time I have never tipped a server.
We will never go back to the Thistle Inn.

“Fine dining in a casual atmosphere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2008

We ate dinner here twice last week. Our first night was July 14th. We were seated in a booth in the front room; and soon met Jessie, our server. She was excellent--very knowledgable about all food items as well as wine offerings. We only wanted a glass of wine, rather than a bottle. Loved both the red and white choices.
Another plus was she described the daily specials in detail as well as including the prices. Good bread in a paper cone was delivered along with flavored olive oil for dipping. My husband had the Glidden Point oysters which he enjoyed.
We both ordered one of the "specials"--surf and turf which included filet mignon and a partial lobster tail easily removed from the shell, grilled asparagus and lemon risotto for $40. I could have eaten a bowl of that delicious risotto.
For dessert I had the ginger snap tower which were the snaps layered with homemade caramel ice cream. My husband had the cheese plate and fresh fruit.
This was our best dining experience in Boothbay.
We made a last minute decision to return on Friday July 18th. We were seated immediately; this time in the second dining room. Our server Nora(hopefully this is correct spelling) was very attentive. My husband had the Paella which included half a lobster tail, steamed mussels, Andouille sausage, shrimp, chicken, snow peas and a cheesy risotto.
I ordered the duck breast and leg confit which came with warm lentil salad and grilled spinach--both dinners were very good.
For dessert I had one of the specials--a trio of sorbets which were coconut, lemon and blueberry with fresh raspberries and strawberries. Just a perfect end to a relaxing meal.

“Dinner tasty but.......”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2008

Had dinner on 4th of July. Made reservation two days before, asked for 7 pm, told that only 6:30 pm was open. OK. Got to restaurant at 6:30 - only a few guests present. Why we were told only 6:30 cannot fathom. Restaurant was not close to full even by 8:30-9pm. Ordered a 2002 Douro wine, wine delivered was 2003. Normally this would be no big deal, but then ordered another bottle of wine and year was younger again! Dinner itself was actually quite good, however, ordered two house specials and no price was quoted up front so we can hardly complain about the $42 entree price but this was much higher than any menu item.
Finally asked for bill to be divided 50/50 to two credit cards. Bill came, but the 2003 wine price was off by about 150% (higher of course). Next try at the bill got one of the bills right (50%) but the other one was over $100 too high! No real apology from the server - just a careful disbelieving look at the bill then a curt, "I'm sorry, I will get it fixed." Talked to manager at end who was appropriately distressed but not really too worried. Will see next month what happens when the bill get processed, since there were three tries with my card.
