“This is a Must do”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2013

Our family visited and insisted we take this tour. We failed to reserve our spot but were very lucky to get on board. The food was amazing and plentiful. The crew gave a great tour and we learned a lot about the area. Make a reservation so you don't get shut out. .

“Take a step back to delicious and fun”

We have been to Cabbage Island numerous times and love the food, boat trip and the family that owns it. Unsurpassed hospitality and just plain relaxing family times.

“Make a memory on Cabbage Island”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2013

Cabbage Island is my favorite place to enjoy a traditional lobster bake, period. If you are touring the Maine coast, you already know that lobster pounds are everywhere along Rt. 1 and that almost every restaurant offers steamed lobster. It may be easier to sit roadside or in a busy restaurant while you enjoy your crustacean, but what sort of memory will that experience provide? Cabbage Island will give you a wonderful, unforgettable memory, not only of the lobster you consumed, (two of them!), but of the friends and family that you enjoyed the experience with.

Your Cabbage Island experience begins with a boat ride. The Bennie Alice has two decks and an open bow that will let you act out your best Titanic fantasy. Bennie Alice is equipped with comfortable bench seating on both decks, restrooms, and a bar. You enjoy a narrated trip through Boothbay Harbor and on to Cabbage Island, where the true fun begins! Disembark and make your way to your choice of patio, inside, or lawn seating. Each option features traditional picnic tables. Once you are settled in at your chosen spot, your server will take your drink order and bring seafood chowder to your table.

Enjoy the chowder, but try to make time to visit the center of the operation, where the shore dinner is being prepared by a hard working team of young people. (Photo op!) A bell will be rung, loudly, to alert you that your shore dinner is ready and waiting. You will need to stand in line for you meal, but this is not a slow moving line by any means! Your clams, lobster, baked potato, onion, egg, and corn on the cob meet your plate with assembly line precision. All necessary eating utensils have already been provided at your table...the rest is up to you!

Enjoy a leisurely shore dinner, but leave room for dessert and a chance to visit the gift shop for a chat with the family matriarch, who runs the little shop after she has finished greeting island guests as they arrive on the island.

Be aware that cash is the only way to go on Cabbage Island, checks and credit cards are not accepted. Also, do not tuck away or lose the ticket that you receive before you board Bennie Alice in Boothbay Harbor. One part of it allows you island access and the other part feeds you!

Cabbage Island is handicap accessible, but you will be traveling up and down a gangway on both ends of the trip.

I have visited Cabbage Island for both lunch and dinner. I prefer dinner for the chance for a beautiful moonlit cruise back to Boothbay Harbor afterward.

Bring your camera! Photo ops abound on Cabbage Island and your server will be more than happy to take group pictures for everyone.

Cabbage Island is my absolute favorite place to enjoy a lobster dinner with friends and family; I can't wait to return next year!

“True Maine To Me!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2013

This is the quintessential Maine experience!! As a child, traveling to Maine to visit relatives, the week always ended with a true clambake. This is one not to be missed!! The Moores make you feel like family. The boat ride, the clambake and dessert are fabulous. Loved that some of the people on the boat had been coming for over 20 years as a tradition. It will now be one of ours. Thanks again and looking forward to next year!!!!

“A unique experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2013 via mobile

A short and pleasant boat ride to the small Cabbage island followed by one the best lunches ever. The house on the island is a short hike (30 feet maybe) and plenty of seating on the porch. Other choices are inside or at the picnic tables sprinkled around the grounds. After a chowder cup the bell rings twice and everybody lines up to pick up a tray with lobsters, steamed clams, one boiled egg , one baked onion and potato plus the traditional corn. The best lobster meal ever. I recommend, after the excellent blueberry pie, to take the short walk to the tip of the island. A must do if you're in Boothbay.
