“Great home made Indian food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2014 via mobile

The food here is made from scratch by a lovely Indian family. The place is nicely decorated and the atmosphere good if the family kids are behaving. The food is well prepared and very tasty. It can be made to the degree of hotness you like so don't worry about it being too spicy and there are many dishes with no heat at all. Great for take out! Try the Peshwari Nan. Most Indian places don't make this type of Nan and when they do they can't beat Jewel of India. Do not hesitate to try this local gem.

“Just a jewel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2014

We try to get to the Jewel of India at least once a month. The wonderful smell of those delicious Indian spices greet you as you open the door. Favorites are lamb rogan josh and lamb korma. The pakora and poori are great addtions to the meal. FI someone in your party is not an Indian food fan....have them try the mixed grill. Flavorful but familiar meat and poultry kabobs. Prices are reasonable. We always wind up taking a portion of the food home. Physical space could use a face lift. Service is very good. The samosa, saag paneer and bread sampler are worth ordering as well. I've tried several of the seafood entrees and didn't care for them. The seafood didn't taste fresh. Minor flaw. Always happy with our other choices. Try it..you'll like it!

“No frills dining but wonderful food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 13, 2014

Great little find in Biddeford, Indian food as good as any I had while living in NYC. I often dine here with a friend who cannot eat dairy and they are always willing to leave it out or make something special for her. It is hard not to order 3 or 4 dishes (more food than you can possibly eat) everything is that tasty. I have no idea how the chef can make spinach into an exciting comfort dish, but they do! Reserved yet warm service, they'll make sure you're well taken care of.

“The best smelling place in southern Maine”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2014

Walk into this restaurant and you get a wonderful whiff of all the good spices which go into the dishes here. The food is wonderful and authentic. Chef Prem is a master and its a nice place to sit in for a few hours. By all means try it and go back again. Try some of the dishes you have never heard of, you won't be sorry

“Disappointing Jewel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2014

I ate at this restaurant when they first opened several years ago. I had a good experience back then and wanted a repeat. Unfortunately, this was not the case during my visit in November 2013.

I stopped in for lunch on a Wednesday to find it empty except for the wait staff. I tried to order some coffee (on the menu) but was told they didn't have any.

The service and the food was simply average and frankly I would be hard pressed to return to the Jewel of India.
