“A wonderful evening with family!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2009

While staying in Western Maine for vacation with three generations of our family, we decided to try the Sudbury Inn in Bethel for dinner. They graciously accomodated 8 of us without a reservation. Fortunately we were there on a Thursday evening -- one of two nights they have a 'dinner for two' special. We enjoyed a 4 course dinner including a bottle of wine for each couple for $59 for two ($49 without the wine). The food was well-prepared and made with fresh ingredients. The service was efficient and friendly -- even with two small children to work around. We had our choice of three appetizers -- all of which were excellent; a salad and wonderful homebaked bread; a choice of 4 entrees (all very good); and three desserts -- the creme brulee and apple/berry pie with ice cream were delicious. We live in Boston and Philadelphia, we've eaten in some of the best restaurants in the country and we all agreed this may have been the best meal for the money we have ever had. If you are in the Bethel Maine area on a Tuesday or Thursday night, we highly recommend the Sudbury Inn!

“We had a great dinner, great drinks, great breakfast and good sleep”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2009

I stayed at the Sudbury Inn with my family for a night this past winter. We ski once a week at Sunday River and were sick of the drive. We had a suite that was great, the kids had their own room that was down a little hall, nice not to be head to head with them. We had a tv with a vcr in our room and were very comfortable.
We had drinks in the pub, dinner in the dining room and a great breakfast was included with our room. Overall we were very happy with our experience.

My fiance and I just returned from a ski weekend at Sunday River. We had a terrible dinner at the Sudbury Inn. Her seafood was overcooked to the point that everything on the plate was tough. My venison was OK, but served in a gloppy sauce through which it was difficult to taste the venison. Definately not worth the price -- even if the food was good.

They did take the seafood off the bill, and the staff was friendly about it, so some points there.

“Great Dinner at the Sudbury Inn”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2005

My husband and I were in Bethel, Maine this past Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005. We were in town for the Bethel Annual Harvest Fest and Chowdah Cook-off and decided to stay in town for the remainder of the weekend. Out of 16 entries from local restaurants, the Sudbury Inn won both of the awards for their Chowder, the Judges Choice and the People's Choice. Given that recommendation, we chose the Sudbury Inn for that evening's dinner.

We were not disappointed! We liked the atmosphere. The dining room was full but we still had a quiet conversation, there were no soundbites from nearby tables. Our server was competent and pleasant. The food was terrific. The house salad was a nice combination of greens, blue cheese, grapes and more in a flavorful house dressing. This was accompanied by warm, fresh bread. We both had the Beef Tournedos, two petite filet mignons. One was in a blue cheese sauce and the other filet was in a demi-glace. Great flavor and incredibly tender! When looking at the wine menu, we were very pleased to find one of our favorite red wines, the Mark West Pinot Noir. It was as rich and full bodied as we remembered it and it was a great match with the beef. Of course, I like this soft, velvety, affordable Pinot Noir on its own, too!

We shared a piece of the Chocolate Walnut pie for dessert. Soooo good! My husband had regular coffee and I had decaf. Not everyone makes a good cup of decaf, but the Sudbury Inn does.

It was a great meal. We'll go there again! Also, if you are in Bethel and looking for a pub style meal, there is a pub downstairs in the Sudbury Inn. That, too, was full of people and the meals on the tables there looked good, also.

Lastly, if you can ever get a chance to attend one of Bethel's Annual Harvest Fest and Chowdah Cook-offs, go! The Chowdah was great, lots of craft booths, music and more. There was also an apple pie contest. Another local restaurant, Liam's, won that award.

There is lots more to do in Bethel besides enjoy the culinary attractions. There are a lot of hiking trails, outdoor activities and more. Enjoy!!!
