“Worth the trip!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2011

We wanted an extended ski trip over the holiday break, but not enough time to fly somewhere. We also wanted to avoid the holiday crowds of VT. Sunday River had excellent skiing, friendly service, plenty of ski in/ski out condos, fireworks at night, freshly groomed night skiing, at least 5 terrain parks, uncrowded runs, and a diverse and challenging mountain. If you can't live without a high end base lodge like Stratton or The Canyons, this is not the place for you. However, the dated base lodges provided plenty of food, drink, pro shops, rentals, lessons, and services. They also have outside fire pits and sell smores packages for toasting. Base hotels and condo complexes have outside swimming pools, always a hit in the middle of winter surrounded by snow. It was a great experience, worth the trip!

“Bethel Fall Festival was beautiful, fun, AND relaxing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2010

Bethel's Fall Festival at Sunday River ski resort was so much fun and relaxing at the same time. The Wife-Carrying Contest is quite amusing, the views of the foliage on the 8 peaks is gorgeous, and the hiking unbeatable with trails for all levels. The wine-tasting this year was fantastic, many wines I will buy, and the seafood and tenderloin delectable! It was well worth the $45. As far as the area eateries: we're never disappointed with the micro brews at the Sunday River Brew pub, but the food is hit or miss. And dinner at the Victoria House was an elegant experience, but the S.S. Milton across the street was a better value for the quality of the food.

“Sunrise Condo--Dated but Comfy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2010

I recently spent 4 nights in a cozy "efficiency" condominium unit at Sunday River. Even though the place seemed a bit dated (apartment furniture, hallways, entryway and basement ski lockers), the condo unit itself was clean and comfortable. The floors were vacuumed each day, and the towels replaced. The bedding situation--a Murphy bed, bunk beds and a pullout sofa--worked out well for my family of three. The indoor pool never got above room temperature, so I wouldn't say it was "heated," and the jacuzzi was out of order during our entire stay. Since we arrived a few days before Christmas, we were expecting to see some trappings of a New England Christmas, but the entire resort was strangely bare of decorations. But all of these minuses were entirely made up by three days of great skiing...

“Best Skiing on the East Coast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2009

My husband and I just returned from a week at the Snow Cap Lodge at Sunday River. The lodge is small and not grand vy any means, but it is warm and relaxing. The staff is excellent. The accomadations, although not 5 star, are adequate for a ski week. The trolley comes every 15 minutes to take you to the base lodges. Can't say enought about a great place to ski and stay.

“Maine getaway . . .”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 28, 2008

My boyfriend and I just got back from a few days at Sunday River. He's a big snowboarder so I thought it'd be nice to visit Maine for a short vacation. The ski/stay midweek package was a great plus because it had everything all together which made making the reservation extremely easy. We stayed at the Grand Jordan with a small kitchenette in our room. The room itself was fine, nothing special and the rooms in the Jordan shouldn't be considered one of "nicer" at the resort. Our room had a pull out bed from the wall with minimum bedding, two couches, TV and small kitchen area. There was a small hole in the ceiling of our room which we found unnecessary but otherwise - it was clean. The package was great because it included the lift tickets, lodging, free adult clinic lessons (great for me because I was a beginner!) and breakfast. Overall the food at the Jordan and all over Sunday River was nothing special. It generally was 'overpriced' and not too tasty but after a long day on the slopes you'll eat just about anything. I'd definitely suggest eating at the restaurants off the resort ground - they are much less money, so much more food and greater atmosphere! Regardless of a few odd things, like the hole in the ceiling as well as the mediocre food we had a great time! :)
