“Hidden treasure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2013

I just spent the weekend in Cottage No. 39 at Colonial Gables - it was wonderful. The cottage has been completely renovated head to toe. It has air conditioning - not the loud window version but combined with its cottage wide system. The view is great from the porch - it's about 25 yards to the water. Flat screen TVs in the living room and each bedroom and a blue ray player. Clean as whistle - you could eat off the floor. Quiet - the way the cottages are set up you have privacy and there is very little noise from other cottages. There is also very little road noise - though I would recommend asking for a cottage as far down the hill (and close to the water) as possible. Beds were very comfortable. I was very pleasantly surprised and would definitely return.

Room Tip: Be sure to ask for a renovated cottage. I also would choose a cottage on the either edge of the pro...

Colonial Gables has a wonderful view, friendly helpful staff (Thanks Mary, Young's lobster pound was great), very clean and comfortable. We enjoyed sitting on the deck of our cabin and walking on the beach. I highly recommend this property.

Room Tip: We stayed in cottage 49. It is a two bedroom, two bath.

Upon arriving to Colonial Gables, Mary was very friendly and welcoming, and upgraded us to a cottage at no charge! The grounds were beautiful, and the location is very nice, close to downtown Belfast and on the way to Acadia. Plus, having Pap J's next door for a DELICIOUS dinner was a big plus. The weather was poor when we visited, but this can hardly be blamed on Colonial Gables! We loved our cottage, but the decor is slightly out of date - I only mention it because some travelers might have an issue with this, but we were very comfortable and loved the space. Also, we could not turn the heat on when we first arrived, but when we mentioned it, it was fixed right away with no issues.

I love clean, at home and when I am traveling. This place is outstandingly clean, clean, clean. The bathroom gleams with sparkling tile floors, walls and fixtures, not even a water spot anywhere. Bedroom is nicely decorated, mattress is very comfortable and the main salon is also clean. The location has an outstanding view of Penobscot Bay, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful in the world. The beauty from the deck of the room is just breathtaking. Last but not least, the location is very convenient to a broad range of great dining, specialty shopping and museums. You can be sure that I (we) will be staying again.

The motel part of the village is clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful with ideas on dinner venues. I traveled with my two adult daughters and we were all impressed with the view and the location. A great place to stay!

Room Tip: Room 31 (actually 13, lol) has a brand new bathroom and is on the end. It was a great room.

Nice place. Rooms have been updated. Beds are good and there are new tvs and internet access. Bathrooms are all new including plumbing. Some road noise but rooms are generally quiet. The grounds are well kept and quite lovely.

We stayed in a 2-bed cottage in October of 2012. Compared to the cottage/property we had stayed in the night before, this property was a bit run-down. You could tell that the cottages were older. Ours definitely had that lovely 60's flare going on in the room. The kitchen was pretty out of date as well. The redeeming quality of this property was the beach & water...watching the sunset come up in the am was quite lovely. Other than that, I would look for a place that is a little more updated.
