“First visit to Maine”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2013

We had been planning to take a trip to Maine for quite a few years and the time was finally right. After deciding to stay in Belfast due to its proximity to the coast and to several interesting attractions (Acadia, Camden, Bar Harbor), we began to read the Tripadvisor reviews for lodging. The Jeweled Turret Inn was ranked highly and rightly so. Everything was perfect. Travel was easy, the room was delightful; clean, comfortable, private. Our fellow travelers were from England, California and Nashville offering a great variety of conversation topics at breakfast. And the breakfasts! My, my, I have never eaten so well. Cathy and Carl are wonderful hosts, offering many suggestions for our visit. Belfast, itself, is charming with friendly, helpful people. The yarn shop, library, dock, bookstore, and Food co-op were all within walking distance. Even the laundrymat, decorated with Halloween lights and many pumpkins, reflected the care and effort of the community to make Belfast a great place to vacation.

Our hostess made us feel welcome right away with a sherry, crackers and cheese reception for all guests - a good chance to meet new people and socialize. Breakfast was delicious, with the best scones we'd eaten in 2 weeks of travel. The location is good and the town is charming without the huge crowds of more touristy cities. A great place to spend the night!
However - the rooms were tiny and over-decorated. Every shelf had so many knick-knacks that there was no room to put anything, and the red lampshade with "crystal" decorations over the bed made the room look like a bordello.
Go for the nice people and the good food - just don't faint when you see the room.

We had a wonderful stay at this inn. Carl and Cathy, the owners, were most hospitable; offering recommendations and advice on the area. The location is great ... within walking distance of downtown and around the corner from the Belfast Library (you should stop in to this beautiful library). Rooms at the Inn are spotless and comfortable. The Inn is a feast for the eye with antiques and collectibles everywhere. The flowers outside were in full bloom. Perhaps the best part was the fabulous breakfast each morning with the freshest of fruit, fresh baked scones and muffins and a new treat each day from Belgian Waffles to Blueberry Pancakes. Fresh orange juice in the morning and lemonade in the afternoon. What more could you ask for!

Room Tip: All rooms were unique. Could not say one was better than the other.

This is our 2nd stay at the Jeweled Turret Inn, our stopping off point for visiting our daughter at overnight camp nearby. This by far the best B&B we've stayed at, and we've stayed at our share of places. Everything is first rate, from the furnishings, the accommodations and the scrumptious breakfast. No complaints whatsoever, just compliments. We'll be certain to stay her again (in 2014).

Absolutely a beautifully and carefully restored Victorian with an abundance of interesting antiques and pictures. Perfect location - it is a two-block stroll to the town of Belfast. The owners, Cathy and Carl, made us feel instantly comfortable and provided easy conversation along with delicious breakfasts. If in the Belfast area again, we will definitely stay at the Jeweled Turret!!

Room Tip: We stayed in Amethyst, which had the second floor turret. It is a beautiful room. Amazing windows...

Very authentic decor. Spotless. Cathy and Carl have been at it for decades and they fit the part. Breakfast is the highlight and they have their song and dance down to a T. It's a well oiled machine, but behind the friendliness there is a ridgity. Lots of rules. Little warning signs everywhere. For example, when you check in you have to pick a time for breakfast - 8 or 9 - and don't be late! No sleeping late and having a relaxing morning. It would be nice to be able to get up and have a continental breakfast. No options and no questions about dietary restrictions or preferences. When I am on holiday I prefer a casual surrounding with some privacy, so this place isn't my style. Small items, but the WiFi is spotty and doesn't reach to the porches. You need to call them. A couple of emails were never answered.

Room Tip: First floor rooms are noisy.

What a beautiful location, home and host family! My husband and I stayed here for an overnight getaway in the Topaz Room. Cathy & Carl were warm and welcoming! The breakfast was phenomenal! The decor and feeling is exceptional, what a beautiful place! I was interested in the history of the inn and Cathy shared the wonderful story with us. This getaway was surely a treat! I strongly recommend this inn if you like bed & breakfasts!
